We have fiber here but it's not for residential use. it's mostly business fiber and what runs the internet service
you'll probably have to lay some more for the 5G base stations
That part was done earlier this year, tbh. We've got fiber to the towers and we're adding more towers to the area but they haven't turned up 5G yet

They claim to be whatever they want as it suits them and we're just caught in the middle. There's a LOT of people 'above' (I actually make more than most first level mgrs) my pay grade working hard to justify their jobs...the tech expectations is a 16 page document stuffed to the brim with farts and whimsy that frequently contradicts itself.
would seem fairly simply, look what the big manufacturers like Huawei, Ericsson, Nokia etc. have to offer, do a market analysis of how many people you can cover and what demography lives there for an indicator of their interest in increased service performance, then depending on that you buy the stuff or not, and have the janitors do the cabling, plus some IT or telco engineer set up device configuration according to the manufacturers manuals, though I'm a lay person so what do I know 🤷

ah ok, I used to work with that stuff, when I was still in a communication engineering company, I developed on FPGAs, like implementing Modulators and error correction for RF transmission
DSL uses DMT, which is basically several QAMs in a OFDM, and then they have a feedback between Modem and DSLAM to adjust bandwidth on different channels for a given wire to minimize overspeak
I'm not at that level of implementation...I'm largely only involved in transmission. Anyway, did you know that ADSL will work on half a phone line?

Somewhat...A (asynchronus) DSL doesn't use matching bitstreams for data transmission where IPDSL does. To make matters worse IPDSL can be installed using a bonded pair profile so now you not only have one pair of cables in sychrony but FOUR...bonded pair, in this market, is the bane of my existence because I've yet to find two pair of phone lines that are similar in quality

So check this out...in our single pair markets 18 Mbps is the absolute fastest we can provide and only if you live within 5k ft of the central office
I had an opportunity to work in a more developed market (i.e. big city) a couple of years back and our full fiber installs were getting 1000 Mbps
yeah the theoretical max for IPDSL is 24 Mbit/s so 18 Mbit/s seems to be close to what is practically achievable with that technology
