The second was not embracing English ethnic as opposed to British nationalism in the form of Brexit, the first being the football hooliganism which still caricatures British nationalism
Yeah a lot of the energy behind Brexit seemed to be a latent English national revival, an English independence movement would've been a lot more compelling in terms of having an obvious ethnic, historical and religious dimension to it plus it could easily deflect the accusations of imperialism from which British nationalism suffers, the fact is Scotland and Ireland are moving closer to Europe where England is moving closer to the USA
That's at least how I've observed the Brexit phenomenon and aftermath
