2018-11-17 01:54:32 UTC

IE needs a black confederate at the next conference

2018-11-17 01:54:48 UTC

He can be our trumpeter.

2018-11-17 01:54:59 UTC

Not going to lie civil war nostalgia hits hard, I think its burned into the American Genome

2018-11-17 01:55:06 UTC

The real victims of the civil war were the Irish

2018-11-17 01:55:14 UTC

*America

2018-11-17 01:55:16 UTC

Literally slaughtering each other

2018-11-17 01:55:46 UTC

@metasophocles
True.

It's legitimately still a source of friction in the South

2018-11-17 01:56:12 UTC

No more brother wars

2018-11-17 01:56:36 UTC

The war should never have happened. The North should have conquered Canada and the South should have conquered Mexico. And if they couldn't live together after that, then both nations would have been plenty self-sufficient and could have separated.

2018-11-17 01:56:41 UTC

It’s absolutely still legitimately a source of friction in the south

2018-11-17 01:56:57 UTC

My mom continues to catch flack for marrying a New Yorker

2018-11-17 01:57:00 UTC

As she should

2018-11-17 01:57:19 UTC

@Wood-Ape - OK/MN And 750,000 Americans wouldn't have died.

2018-11-17 01:58:09 UTC

@Axel If some black asks you for reparations, tell them 750,00 of our fathers and uncles are their reparations (not to mention all welfare spending)

2018-11-17 01:58:22 UTC

And demand a "thank you"

2018-11-17 01:58:37 UTC

@ophiuchus My Step dad is from Illinois, and my Mom's side of the family still holds it against both of them, some 30 years later.

The resentment is real

2018-11-17 01:58:49 UTC

I just wish we would have actually done the same as Britain and had the government just purchase all slaves at market value and deport them to a nation to fascimile the origin

2018-11-17 01:58:51 UTC

It was literally a brother war. Literally brothers on opposite sides of the civil war often. I have ancestors who fought for north and south I believe

2018-11-17 01:59:00 UTC

Revolutionary war too

2018-11-17 01:59:21 UTC

@metasophocles That would have been best.

Sigh, hindsight....

2018-11-17 02:00:14 UTC

@metasophocles man is that what they did

2018-11-17 02:00:22 UTC

That’s seriously brilliant

2018-11-17 02:00:28 UTC

God I wish that were us

2018-11-17 02:00:32 UTC

The only diversity we need is for northerners and southerners to join houses <:4dchess:439923932062154782>

2018-11-17 02:00:38 UTC

Yeah, Britain only paid off the debt of freeing slaves around 2014

2018-11-17 02:00:58 UTC

So modern Britons ended slavery directly

2018-11-17 02:02:40 UTC

Many heroes on both sides. Unnecessary conflict. A costly lesson.

2018-11-17 02:03:01 UTC

Whether you live in the mountains of Arkansas or Maine, they're coming for us all.

2018-11-17 02:03:24 UTC

Imagine what we could've achieved if neither side lost their great men <:sad:366743316475281408>

2018-11-17 02:03:50 UTC

Chances are we wouldn't even be having this discussion right now

2018-11-17 02:04:10 UTC

A really great series of stories came out of the Spanish American war, when former Confederate and Union soldiers fought side by side to build essentially the American Golden Age of Empire, led by Theodore Roosevelt, the son of southern and northern families

2018-11-17 02:07:15 UTC

Dude, Imagine if
-The best parts of the North, industrialism, and calm witted resiliance...

Mixed with,
-The best of the South, rugged independence, stubborn desire to fight for every inch of their freedom

America would have been a juggernaut.

2018-11-17 02:09:54 UTC

So...America from 1880 to 1914
