lol

2020-11-24 18:36:11 UTC

It's interesting I'm just not an "out there" kind of person

2020-11-24 18:36:30 UTC

The internal world is more captivating to me

2020-11-24 18:48:10 UTC

Plus everyone knows the earth is flat.

2020-11-24 19:05:01 UTC

It does not make a difference to me what shape the map of the earth is in. lol

2020-11-24 19:05:59 UTC

I do find it sad that most people believe it is round because they were told so. Even if it is round, they should be a little skeptical.

2020-11-24 19:06:14 UTC

I was just joking

2020-11-24 19:06:54 UTC

I know.

2020-11-24 19:07:54 UTC

The point is that most people only know what they have been told. Flat or round makes little difference in most peoples personal lives. It is only fun fact type of trivia.

2020-11-24 19:08:11 UTC

Do people believe it because they're told it or do they believe it based on the evidence they're given?

2020-11-24 19:09:06 UTC

Noone has ever been able to show me any evidence of it or a well thought out proof.

2020-11-24 19:09:38 UTC

In my education I learned about the earth in context to the universe and the cell, all kinds of things I couldn't independently verify, but the reasoning was sound

2020-11-24 19:09:56 UTC

Circumstantial evidence is still evidence

2020-11-24 19:10:24 UTC

It's all we have, not being omniscient

2020-11-24 19:10:35 UTC

We have more than that.

2020-11-24 19:10:44 UTC

Data is a collection of anecdotes

2020-11-24 19:10:54 UTC

I am a math guy and a software guy.

2020-11-24 19:11:22 UTC

Is math not involved in our understanding of the earth?

2020-11-24 19:11:42 UTC

Math is a language.

2020-11-24 19:11:47 UTC

Is that not available to someone who wants to explore the basic reasoning further?

2020-11-24 19:12:04 UTC

It is used for description but it can also lie.

2020-11-24 19:12:21 UTC

Most people only know basic algebra.

2020-11-24 19:13:53 UTC

I just don't agree with the supposition that people believe because they're told. In santa, yes, in sciences, not as much. There are exceptions like vaccines and viruses, but our understanding of the earth has a long history of evidence being honed and the bulk of it is readily available

2020-11-24 19:14:18 UTC

Are you one of those antivaxxers?

2020-11-24 19:15:29 UTC

I'm consistent in my belief that human beings have been given the ability to cope with environmental stressors.

2020-11-24 19:15:43 UTC

haha I agree with you.

2020-11-24 19:16:36 UTC

Around me and in academic circles you would be called antivaxxer for even questioning these things.

2020-11-24 19:17:04 UTC

I think a mass exodus to the seas and a rebirth of the age of piracy is one of the most viable way to keep men free low key

2020-11-24 19:17:24 UTC

Ways *

2020-11-24 19:17:37 UTC

And be bound by to a vessel? No thanks

2020-11-24 19:17:49 UTC

Nation states infringing on first world folks rights and ability to do things

2020-11-24 19:18:00 UTC

Just leave the nation state

2020-11-24 19:18:09 UTC

Rob from the global market

2020-11-24 19:18:16 UTC

And die for a cause

2020-11-24 19:18:26 UTC

@Stipler Monke like Somalia? lol

2020-11-24 19:18:31 UTC

I believe the benefits of the nation state have been evidenced throughout history

2020-11-24 19:18:34 UTC

But smarter

2020-11-24 19:18:45 UTC

Human corruption is the same everywhere you go

2020-11-24 19:18:47 UTC

Somalian pirates are very unorganized

2020-11-24 19:19:12 UTC

Boat life is rough.

2020-11-24 19:19:21 UTC

Yes
