What about a brita filter. Worst comes to worst just boil the water for 10min in a large pot, let it cool, pour in a basic filter like Brita, then pour it in plastic containers, and store in the fridge.

My parents house was in the woods and power lines would fall all the time. I’ve seen my mom do that a thousand times, light the gas stove with a long matchstick or lighter but have never done it myself. As long as I don’t have Covid I can smell the gas!
