Well there you go thanks @ThisIsChris

2018-11-28 20:32:00 UTC

@William Russell I've done that when talking to my grandparents in English. Didn't even realize I was doing it until after I had done it.

2018-11-28 20:32:12 UTC

yw!

2018-11-28 20:32:15 UTC

@ThisIsChris That makes sense. My parents never really made food that matched up with our ethnic identity. It was kind of a special occasion thing. Usually we'd just eat pretty standard white people food that you'd find in any country, like rotisserie chicken and mashed potatoes. Later on my dad started making a lot of Indian food.

2018-11-28 20:32:33 UTC

I'm actually kind of trying to re-learn to make the food my ancestors made

2018-11-28 20:32:53 UTC

@Bogl - CA I knew it had to be something

2018-11-28 20:33:52 UTC

@Bogl - CA What language do your grandparents speak?

2018-11-28 20:33:58 UTC

@Jacob i love my immediate culture, but it's really about tastebuds with me.
now french dessert reigns supreme imo

2018-11-28 20:34:10 UTC

@Jacob Portuguese

2018-11-28 20:34:31 UTC

@ThisIsChris I thought code switching referred to mixing words from two languages, not the accent thing?

2018-11-28 20:34:57 UTC

@Jacob wait a tic, you're indian?

2018-11-28 20:35:03 UTC

I enjoy Mexican food more than English or German food for sure.. no bully pls

2018-11-28 20:35:28 UTC

2018-11-28 20:35:52 UTC

my point was that my parents *didn't* make food from our own culture

2018-11-28 20:35:56 UTC

that was part of the point

There is an abnormal amount of IE members fluent in Spanish

2018-11-28 20:36:49 UTC

I’m one of them. It’s a little bizarre

2018-11-28 20:37:00 UTC

Isn't it kinda normal to speak Spanish now?

2018-11-28 20:37:01 UTC

I guess that’s what happens when they are half the country

2018-11-28 20:37:49 UTC

They don’t learn English so I suppose it’s “normal” to speak Spanish

2018-11-28 20:37:50 UTC

@Hyphenstein no pictures of people being crucified

2018-11-28 20:37:57 UTC

CRINGE

2018-11-28 20:38:17 UTC

I am sure for many of us, exposure to diversity is what helped us gain these beliefs.

2018-11-28 20:38:19 UTC

mfw my family had the french tongue beat out of them because of people like @The Eternal Anglo <:sad:366743316475281408>

2018-11-28 20:38:29 UTC

@William Russell The most intolerant group wins

2018-11-28 20:38:43 UTC

tfw your Swedish culture is kinda like Anglo LARPing

2018-11-28 20:38:53 UTC

Unless we want Spanish to take over, we need to refuse to speak it to them

2018-11-28 20:38:56 UTC

>tfw my family had to change their last name because of the eternal anglo

2018-11-28 20:39:10 UTC

>tfw the midwest was under investigation because of WWI

2018-11-28 20:39:13 UTC

Trashboat is a pretty weird last name to pick

2018-11-28 20:39:13 UTC

MonkaS

2018-11-28 20:39:19 UTC

I accidently slipped a Spanish word in while speaking Portuguese to my grandma and she laughed at me for probably 30 seconds straight. This is what happens when you work with Mexicans all day.

2018-11-28 20:39:22 UTC

Boat is the last name

2018-11-28 20:39:29 UTC

It's been anglicized from boot
