RPGs are harder to make an argument for

2020-07-23 01:24:07 UTC

M79s on the other hand

2020-07-23 01:25:26 UTC

Tbh the problem with something like an RPG7 or more modern reloadable ones is that they can have super fucked up warheads like thermobarics which take out parts of buildings

2020-07-23 01:26:18 UTC

And I’m pretty sure you can own M79s because I saw a China Lake pump-action launcher on sale one time

2020-07-23 01:52:45 UTC

I think you can get an m79, but you can't get the grenades

2020-07-23 01:54:00 UTC

so you can get the gun

2020-07-23 01:54:03 UTC

but not the ammo

2020-07-23 01:54:05 UTC

huh

2020-07-23 01:54:47 UTC

Nope, I'm wrong

2020-07-23 01:54:53 UTC

ah okay

2020-07-23 01:54:55 UTC

i was confused

"M79 grenade launchers are destructive devices, meaning you will need a $200 tax stamp and a months long approval and background check process to obtain one. However, as long as it is legal in your state, you can get them.

They’re not exactly easy to find. Not a whole lot were produced for the civilian market. I was only able to find one for sale, here at AUTOWEAPONS.COM

From what I can tell they typically cost about $5,000–10,000.

Explosive rounds are hard to come by and each individual one must be registered with an additional $200 stamp and background check. You can use buckshot/flechette/beehive rounds as well as smoke, flare, and chalk rounds without restriction, however.

A better option would be a 37mm replica. 37mm launchers are designed to shoot flares and thus aren’t considered weapons, and can be bought freely. The 37mm M79 replica, the TBL-37 (TBL-37 Top Break 37mm Flare Launcher Wood Stock) is kind of ugly and certainly not an exact replica, but it has much less regulation and is probably a lot cheaper, if you can find one. You can only legally shoot non-weapon rounds from it, though, such as flares or smoke. You can’t use any lethal rounds like buckshot or even nonlethal rounds like beanbags."

jeez

2020-07-23 01:56:26 UTC

month long approval

2020-07-23 01:56:35 UTC

but one shot big boom shotgun

<:OmegaThonk:676621813307932673>

2020-07-23 02:03:26 UTC

Yeah, I knew you could get the rounds because a guy I know who had one at one point and he’d reload his 40mm rounds

2020-07-23 02:03:51 UTC

Well not exactly an M79 but it was a grenade launcher

2020-07-23 02:04:31 UTC

Also, 10k for an NFA gun is pretty cheap

2020-07-23 02:04:56 UTC

I’ve seen full auto lowers go for more

2020-07-23 02:31:17 UTC

I was just thinking about loading your own.

2020-07-23 02:31:20 UTC

Lol.

2020-07-23 02:31:45 UTC

Though the whole process would be weird... and supplies are probably impossible to get

2020-07-23 02:33:07 UTC

Nah just buy 50lbs of tannerite

2020-07-23 02:33:08 UTC

ez

2020-07-23 02:33:11 UTC

I wouldn’t mind owning one lol

2020-07-23 02:34:18 UTC

Or make black powder. Cheaper, easier, and more destructive. You could buy it, but I bet making some would be more fun haha

2020-07-23 02:36:02 UTC

But how would it explode on contact?

2020-07-23 02:36:12 UTC

And not in the gun itself...

2020-07-23 02:36:19 UTC

That would be the tricky part

2020-07-23 02:37:14 UTC

I think it’s just a timer on the shell. Idk. I’m not exactly a munitions expert lol

2020-07-23 02:40:32 UTC

Maybe could just set a fuse?

2020-07-23 02:42:25 UTC

I do know that inside, one the arm on the grenade releases, it strikes a pin, kinda like on a gun, and makes a spark and lights the powder inside, I’m not sure about the grenade launchers though, it most likely is some sort of delay or fuse.

2020-07-23 02:42:39 UTC

*when

2020-07-23 02:43:11 UTC

Most 40mm grenades have impact fuses

2020-07-23 02:43:30 UTC

If not, they can be set to explode after a certain distance by counting rotations

2020-07-23 02:59:47 UTC

Yeah. Lol. Idk how parts would be acquired. I mean. Im sure you could rig something up, but damn, thats gonna be a pain

2020-07-23 03:02:10 UTC

I'm sure there are slightly illegal instructions on the internet

2020-07-23 03:02:58 UTC

🤣

2020-07-23 03:13:07 UTC

The standard 40mm HE grenade typically arms itself after 3 rotations. Meaning if it falls out of your vest and rolls down the hill, dont pick it up.

I guess I know how to tick off my local SWAT operator
