@TMatthews you’re not wrong, but there a many pockets of distinctly European cultures.

2018-12-09 05:55:46 UTC

and the name “Pennsylvania Dutch” comes from “deutsch” not “dutch”

2018-12-09 05:56:25 UTC

I have an ancestor who came from Germany to Pennsylvania in the 1700s

2018-12-09 05:56:26 UTC

also, there are some pockets of NC where people speak a version of 1700s British English with some Southern pronunciation mixed in

2018-12-09 05:56:49 UTC

@Jacob What’s the town in central Washington that’s known for its German heritage? I was stationed in whidbey island WA for a few years

2018-12-09 05:58:34 UTC

My area celebrates there German/Czech heritage very vocally. I never appreciated the environment until now.

2018-12-09 05:58:45 UTC

Their*

2018-12-09 05:59:26 UTC

Leavenworth

2018-12-09 05:59:37 UTC

PA has a substantial number of Pennsylvania German speakers, but it's mostly just the Amish/Mennonites now. Used to be common with normal rural folks

2018-12-09 06:00:07 UTC

I'm not sure how much of that is genuine German heritage and how much of it is just due to being a tourist attraction

2018-12-09 06:00:32 UTC

It's definitely a bit forced, not that that's a bad thing

2018-12-09 06:00:36 UTC

It's a pretty cool town

2018-12-09 06:00:46 UTC

Leavenworth, famous for the Thirty Mile Fire...

2018-12-09 06:00:57 UTC

😔

2018-12-09 06:01:19 UTC

Among other things, probably

2018-12-09 06:01:28 UTC

no that's a different town

2018-12-09 06:01:43 UTC

I just looked up where the fire was and it's pretty far north of Leavenworth

2018-12-09 06:02:04 UTC

@Jacob I appreciated the place. Texas is very much known for its German populations though.

2018-12-09 06:02:15 UTC

It seems like you're thinking of Winthrop, a wild west themed town

2018-12-09 06:02:19 UTC

Oh. Hmmm. It was mentioned in Maclean's book. I think Fitzpatrick and the others stopped there on the way

2018-12-09 06:02:42 UTC

Washington is truly a great place though. Minus Seattle

2018-12-09 06:03:00 UTC

I like eastern Washington

2018-12-09 06:03:01 UTC

eh, you'd have to minus a few other parts

2018-12-09 06:03:10 UTC

Olympia

2018-12-09 06:03:13 UTC

I like living in Eastern Washington

2018-12-09 06:03:25 UTC

Sure. I used to camp out in Yakima

2018-12-09 06:03:46 UTC

Pretty much the entire urbanized part of Western Washington is cancer

2018-12-09 06:03:48 UTC

Float the Yakima river

2018-12-09 06:04:02 UTC

and significant parts of Central Washington are Mexican

2018-12-09 06:04:44 UTC

Yep. I actually didn’t enjoy living on the western part

2018-12-09 06:05:02 UTC

Yeah, NW as a white homeland is highly unlikely

2018-12-09 06:05:26 UTC

Montana is best bet tbh lol

2018-12-09 06:05:36 UTC

For now

2018-12-09 06:05:38 UTC

Unless something happens

2018-12-09 06:06:08 UTC

Idaho, CO, MT

2018-12-09 06:06:22 UTC

Eastern WA

2018-12-09 06:06:40 UTC

Eastern Washington is really hit or miss

2018-12-09 06:06:58 UTC
