@Igmdigm nah, registered ddr3 was dirt cheap last year, esp. the slower stuff you'd generally use in a server

like, r710 with the nicest cpu it supports and maxed-out ram was a couple thousand usd

ddr4 isn't too terribly expensive, def. gonna focus on the server first for ram but i've considered just slapping 4x16GB 2666 in my workstation

intel and amd should look at ibm and copy centaur

super-fast generic memory controller that talks to an external chip that talks to the ram so you can support standards that don't even _Exist_ yet

just slap same cpu on new motherboard for ddr5 or w/e, would be nice
