The issue is that the paperwork to decommission a gun is now more expensive than the gun itself.

So even if it went up for sale, the government would lose money.

I think the estimate I read online was it took something like $2000 to decommission a single shitty beat up 1911.

The military makes it really, really hard to give up equipment, in order to fluff their budgets.
