Do people have different personalities when hungry for example? How about that pep-in-your-step when your bank account is full as opposed to the slump in your shoulders when it's empty? Too many factors to make a science out of it unless you include these factors.

2019-01-08 06:44:50 UTC

But, maybe the attempt at it is useful.

2019-01-08 06:45:15 UTC

@DaddyPaddy - FL Very interesting question that you have proposed. Unfortunately, ME NO SCIENCE ha ha

2019-01-08 06:45:32 UTC

Clearly it is useful, otherwise it would be a complete waste of time and show zero utility.

2019-01-08 06:46:27 UTC

I don't think it shows zero utility, but very little. Start hitting the gym and reading books, your personality will fit any situation.

2019-01-08 06:46:30 UTC

The fact that these personality types show strong correlations mean they are measuring something useful, to varying degrees of course

2019-01-08 06:46:55 UTC

Nah, genetics plays too much of a role in such things as personality.

2019-01-08 06:47:13 UTC

You can change your personality to a significant degree, but there are limitations

2019-01-08 06:47:20 UTC

I feel personalities have some set "homeostasis" points. They can definitely change depending on situation and mood.

2019-01-08 06:47:59 UTC

There are varying times when I feel more extroverted and more introverted.

2019-01-08 06:48:01 UTC

And those limitations are often more likely to be the determining factor in someone's personality than their ability to change.

2019-01-08 06:48:04 UTC

Those "homeostasis" points are within such a broad range, I don't believe it is too useful.

2019-01-08 06:48:26 UTC

I feel like it's not so much the personality that changes as it is you reacting to your environment. Someone who angrily bursts out because they're hungry is likely not an emotionally disciplined person in general, for instance

2019-01-08 06:49:04 UTC

That is a good point @Nico The Great - CA .

2019-01-08 06:49:57 UTC

My red-pilled awaking was very difficult. It took about five years. I was always in touch with racial reality, but I denied it for many years because I wanted to be "cool." Moving from Georgia tp California in 1989 changed my mind for real. I had never seen such White cowardice. All decent Californians have now moved out.

2019-01-08 06:50:15 UTC

Your reactions to environments is a reflection of personality. Even within the mind, not necessarily an outward expression.

2019-01-08 06:50:39 UTC

@Gerald Cunningham I'm just speaking from personal experience, but I used to be EXTREMELY self-disciplined. As a religious person, I did this by reading the Bible everyday, praying constantly, working out routinely, and this actually made me a very different person. Even how I thought and acted was totally different. As I've gotten more lazy, I'm more likely to emotionally burst for instance

2019-01-08 06:50:51 UTC

There are real things (e.g. chemical changes) that can alter your personality to some degree like regular exercise, diet etc, but those usually don't make DRAMATIC changes in your personality. A narcissistic person, for example, will not become significantly less narcissistic if they do or do not exercise or use some diet.

2019-01-08 06:51:45 UTC

A narcissistic person can become quite different with self discipline.

2019-01-08 06:52:15 UTC

This is actually a very fascinating topic, I'm just a little low-iq for it ha ha

2019-01-08 06:52:55 UTC

I guess it depends on the person, but I've known a number of anti-social personality disorder types (psychopaths of various stripes) that have never and will never change IMO.

2019-01-08 06:53:06 UTC

Interesting. Do you think this state of "laziness" is a permanent character change or more of a phase kind of thing. I believe that you could easily revert back to this disciplined state of mind. Especially when considering the brain can revert to this kind of state and remember how it felt to be that way @Nico The Great - CA .

2019-01-08 06:53:10 UTC

Of course, that would require them to realize they were narcissistic, wouldn't it? You got me there @greg_p - TX

2019-01-08 06:53:39 UTC

I haven't ever known someone who became significantly less narcissistic (discounting changes during teen years to adulthood).

2019-01-08 06:54:51 UTC

I am a workaholic, but I also go through phases of laziness and procrastination.

2019-01-08 06:55:00 UTC

@Gerald Cunningham I go through such phases depending on the season (laziness, fatty foods, less exercise during winter months, Lean attitude in the summer)

2019-01-08 06:55:48 UTC

Ah, that sounds a lot similar to Seasonal Affective Disorder

2019-01-08 06:56:18 UTC

It's not to get my "summer bod" either, I'm married with 5 kids. I believe it to be a survival instinct to my ancestors cold climate.

2019-01-08 06:56:54 UTC

@Gerald Cunningham I would say it's more of a phase. Because I know I can go back to that, but it will take great willpower to do it. Back in my "better days," every single day was a battle of will. I think it's possible, but it takes an immense devotion to something. Once again, as a religious person, I would argue that my devotion to God was the only thing that inspired me and gave me will, but you might have a different outlook on that. Cold showers really do help too by the way ha ha

2019-01-08 06:58:10 UTC

@Gerald Cunningham Want to do an 8 day fast with me starting on the 9th?

2019-01-08 07:00:35 UTC

I've heard a lot of people share the idea that being disciplined in one aspect of your life leads to that mentality affecting the rest of your activity. Sounds like your devotion to God was either the result or the catalyst of that mentality. Kind of along the lines of those Navy Seals saying "make your bed in the morning, small things matter," or even Jordan Peterson saying clean your room bucko.

2019-01-08 07:00:41 UTC

I guess that would be starting tomorrow lol

2019-01-08 07:00:48 UTC

Good lord, man!!! @DaddyPaddy - FL

2019-01-08 07:01:03 UTC

2019-01-08 07:03:03 UTC

@DaddyPaddy - FL Sounds good. But is the fasting literally NO FOOD? I'm a skinny guy, man! And I like food! I was just about to go to Denny's tomorrow ha ha!
