Does anyone know Rittenhouse's status, after the Dec. 4th hearing?
Free and awaiting his next hearing, I pinned the next hearing in the channel's pinned messages.
Maw, what do you mean when you say that "a lot of the problem with the US's rehabilitation system stems from US culture."
@D'asia94, you just advanced to level 1!
Exactly what I said. Convicted felons are not treated as standard members of society by the public at large.
There are lasting (and in many cases, permanent) changes to how you can live as a convicted felon after serving your time.
Job opportunities, liberties, etc.
It has become a life-long punishment in many respects.
Which (imagine my shock) increases the likelihood of reoffense.
So yes, it means exactly what it says on the tin.
Can't vote, can't own firearms (even if it was a non-violent felony) so no tools of self defense, always have to check the box on a job application asking if you have ever been convicted of a crime, the perpetual stigma of having been incarcerated, even if you've completed your sentence. Even if you get it expunged from your record on completion of the sentence because of the internet and its search capabilities your name will pretty much always be found by a simple google search with your mug shot etc.
^ my reaction to this topic
heh
Lol
lol... perfect.
@Maw, @AntiFish03, okay. I thought you meant some racist s**t about how it's always a Black brother or sister committing more crimes than any other "culture." I get really tired of that conversation.
@Valentino G - perfect.
wat
No, I think the drug war is abysmal and disproportionately affects people of color.
The wealth gap is also another cause of high crime rates, poorer people are more desperate. We need to invest in certain neighborhoods to try and equalize the outcome.
Not really anything regarding culture there.
I'm against stuff like Affirmative action, but I'm 100% for investing into schools for poor neighborhoods (and this is unfortunately disproportionately minority neighborhoods)
And allocating more funding there.
I'd primarily like to see investments into education, and perhaps public infrastructure/housing a second.
Nicer parks, etc.
Try to keep some infrastructure from crumbling apart.
E.g: Condemned buildings in Baltimore.
Either to refurbish or rebuild.
People under the poverty line are far more likely to turn to crime if they cannot escape poverty while working full-time.
And yeah, *%(# the drug war.
Amen
🤔 I went from prep cook to SWE with no degree. As someone who fail college algebra three times consecutively and now gets paid little green rectangles to wrangle numbers and letters into working codes... With enough hustle you can do it.
@Maw I agree the drug war needs to end the same way prohibition did.
hahaha
> When you're trying to be stealthy with a home invader inside your house.
Have a childs walkie talkie-set, leave one in a room closer to the invader than you are, and as you withdraw you transmit: "Delta 3-5, eyes on targets. Delta 3-5 commencing." . Then you shout into the darkness "Armed Police, show me your hands!"
This has been another home invasion tip from the Nordic "where everything you do to defend yourself is a crime"-model.
Lol.
