holy shit
intel's getting RAPED
ARM's new processor BEATs Intel's ultra thin i5 lineup
even at emulating win32 apps
this means future ultra thin and light laptops will be using ARM CPUs
and apple replacing intel with it as well for their macbooks
<:you:265281777168416768> unironically taking these benchmarks as facts
in a curated benchmark by qualcomm, in memory and gpu bound applications, while running a newer OS and at a lower resolution
Still reasonable to be excited. The difference in battery life is ridiculous, even when you factor in the lower resolution display.
except if in the real world it's twice as slow and you're negating battery usage by waiting for everything
I beg to differ quite an bit
If it's twice as slow you might just want to scrap some task (like gayming or heavy photoshopping)
And some other tasks will 'feel as fast' because the difference is minimal (text editing, spreadsheet etc)
I'm quite doubting the performance benchmark of qualcomm, mind you, but even at half the performance of the i5 it might be a good option if the battery performance is twice its competitor
It's just not gonna be a high end laptop
^
Using a laptop for anything other than business tasks is, as far as I'm concerned, deeply retarded.
why not
Depends a lot on what you want to do but since I expect the answer to be anywhere near gayming it's gonna require components (mainly a graphic card) that's gonna be shit and super expensive
+ whatever underlying (air flow/temperature management, battery life is gonna be hot garbage, weight, etc etc)
Piss poor for media consumption (tiny screen by necessity, or you're going to be hauling a fucking monster-laptop). As above, it's fucky for gaming (performance / heat dissipation / cunty keyboard / screen once more).
For photoshop tasks, screen AGAIN.
its not 2005
Might be good quality, but are you really going to pretend working on a 13" display is remotely pleasant?
ofc there is some tradeoff
being either weight/size(chunkyness) or price
And yes, you can dock the fucker... but at that point it's a pseudo-desktop instead.
With shit heat dissipation.
docking is as simple as connecting it to hdmi
expect there is tons of onsite/at customer/consulting load where laptop outshines easily any desktop in terms of convenience, getting things done etc
instead of waiting to demo something be it code,3D,photoshop
Sure. Business tasks.
you can do it on the fly
not only in business but hobbyist use too
if I was a student who both needed a pretty powerful pc for lets say compiling code and taking notes and gaming I'd totally buy a laptop
I'd rather stab myself in the kidney than use a laptop as a laptop for any prolonged period of time.
visiting hacklabs, backuping those pictures from camera to get more room to SD card
etc etc etc
its just about invidual need
quite a few of my classmates go back home to their province for the weekends so in that scenario its totally justifiable
