@miker Someone on another diy server tried those and was disapointed to the point where he said he rather take apart a prebuilt screen next time. They do their job, but the screen is shit/second choice.
>take apart a prebuilt screen
from .. a tablet?
interesting though, i'll post review on screen quality etc. when it gets here
>create friend who works for hospital
>have access to old medical grade screens
>buy tablet size screens for like 10 bucks each
*create* friend
🤔
aren't medical grade screens usually mediocre apart from insanely high standards
You can build anything you set your mind to
the reason i want these tablet screens is because >2560x1600
Well if you get one, please report back. I'd be interested on it any way
<https://geoff.greer.fm/2019/03/04/thinkpad-x210/> so you want one of these @miker
tagging @Deleted User if he has not seen that
what?
those geek ass custom X210 etc Thinkopaddus
``` X201 chassis with:
A Core i7 8550u (4 cores, turbo boost up to 4GHz)
2Ă— DDR4 SODIMM slots. I put 32 GB of RAM in.
2× mini PCI Express slots. There’s an 802.11/Bluetooth card in one. The other is empty but could be used for LTE or a second wireless card.
An M.2 NVMe slot. I put a 2TB SSD in it.
A 3.5” SATA bay. I left it empty, but it’s possible to put a second SSD in.
An upgraded screen (12.6 inch, 2880Ă—1920, 450 nits, wide gamut). The bezel is cut to make room for the 3:2 aspect ratio. There is no webcam.
Mini DisplayPort & VGA out.
3Ă— USB 3.1 ports (no USB-C).
SD card reader.
Gigabit ethernet.
Physical switch to toggle Wifi/Bluetooth.
Headphone & microphone jacks.
Internal microphone & speakers.
true chinkshit product
magical chinkshit yes i've been linked that 3 times this morning
i already have a nice laptop but i want to lug around extra screens for it as needed
ahh
entire laptop cost about as much as his 32gb RAM and 2tb (!) nvme
wait that thing is just extra chinkscreen ?
on the preview it looked like laptop
i bought a LCD panel (+ backlight) and the chip to interface its 40pin embedded DisplayPort (? i think) to HDMI
for $55
this man bought an old thinkpad chassis retrofitted with a custom motherboard manufactured in shenzen
with high end current-gen laptop components like CPU and insane screen
for $1200
i mean you could ask the seller about what panel they are using
(and controller too)
not including his own RAM and ssd
to prevent flicker/etc suprises
and yes
the blogger linked the panel but it's not a common one
i bought the cheapest one i could find because e x p e r i m e n t a l
you can get cheap replacement screens for a variety of portables like laptops, ipads, etc
the hard part is converting their tinyass internal ribbon connector to a sane port like HDMI
which is where magical chinks come in
years ago this was done with ipad screens, see: https://www.reddit.com/r/battlestations/comments/1q0ev5/6_retina_display_array_6144_x_3072/
each woulda been about $55 per panel + $40/chip if done right
then 4k monitors came in
is the /csg/ review bot still up?
no I didn't port it yet
gonna get a mi 8 pro in a couple days, so I'll give it a review this weekend once I've had some time with it
just let us !review and post it here
