i'm a fan of the sculpted g10 that has a groove for the thumbstud

2019-06-22 19:22:04 UTC

I had the gold one

2019-06-22 19:22:05 UTC

that reminds me, you could always get one of those "edc coin knives"

2019-06-22 19:22:31 UTC

can't say i'd recommend any of them, mostly unbranded with whoknowswhat steel

2019-06-22 19:22:40 UTC

I've looked at them but passed
Don't remember why by now

2019-06-22 19:22:43 UTC

Probably that

2019-06-22 19:23:00 UTC

only used mine to open packages with anyway

2019-06-22 19:23:02 UTC

i wouldn't even trust the fura ones, they've lied about the materials they use

2019-06-22 19:23:09 UTC

@Comfy you still have yours?

2019-06-22 19:23:23 UTC

But unless I get that ZDP dragonfly I don't care much about the steel

2019-06-22 19:24:26 UTC

Ouch

2019-06-22 20:07:59 UTC

all but that "folding knife" are pretty good tbh and steel is not total shit even tho "not as advertised

2019-06-22 20:10:18 UTC

not that that steel is that far off...edit: well yes and no 2CR +- does not show anywhere in realworld usage for such knifes and extra vanadium and molybd gives it more corrosion resistance.

2019-06-22 20:16:29 UTC

hell some could argue that the chinese steel is better too

2019-06-22 20:17:22 UTC

unless you think CRKT and Benchmade (and to extent spyderco(8cr13mov = AUS8)) use shitty chinese steel

2019-06-22 20:22:57 UTC

the two notable brands that lie about materials is fura, eafengrow and some of the early ystart knives

2019-06-22 20:23:22 UTC

mainly just lying about d2 and instead using 8cr13mov instead

2019-06-22 20:23:53 UTC

apparently some of the newest ganzo knives have super high HRC

2019-06-22 20:53:41 UTC

Super high isn't really desirable either, it'll be a pain to sharpen and snap / crack easily?

2019-06-22 20:54:41 UTC

ii mean super high in terms of their advertised range

2019-06-22 20:54:51 UTC

i think most is 58-60 anyway

2019-06-22 20:56:05 UTC

There were some Japs doing like HRC 63 kitchen knives

2019-06-22 20:56:19 UTC

the main problem is when a manufactorer adverts 60-62 hrc for a $200 m390 blade and its 56

2019-06-22 20:56:28 UTC

big oof

2019-06-22 20:56:30 UTC

Well yeah that sucks
Get chinked

2019-06-22 20:56:58 UTC

so basically the youtuber(s) that maintain this list of third-party hardness testing all collectively sperged out

2019-06-22 20:57:13 UTC

if $200 can't guarantee you shit then why bother dealing with company x or y

2019-06-22 20:58:25 UTC

Gotta be doing pretty well to have a Rockwell tester and dent your brand new $200 knife as well
What I they cheaped out on a chink tester

2019-06-22 20:59:16 UTC

the main testing is done by luvthemknives, who sends them out to a company and i think sometimes to another company for testing

2019-06-22 20:59:37 UTC

one knife had like 6 different hrcs depending on where you used the tester, had a crazy range like 54-60

2019-06-22 21:00:20 UTC

Nearly seems like a faulty oven used for HT

2019-06-22 21:00:22 UTC

idk how he has so many knives though, he's like a 50 y.o boomer and i think he buys a knife, uses it for a week and resells it for a slight loss

2019-06-22 21:02:07 UTC

i wouldn't mind buying knives with a test mark, i think its cool
