That is true, communism is much like that, unless you are opposed to it, then you get squashed none the less. I am keen to understand these redeeming qualities you find in socialism though, it's rather concerning as I struggle to find any qualities worthy of being considered redeeming, so would be interesting to understand that statement of yours, if you dont mind elaborating.

I disagree with all you said, Historically, communism has always fallen into single part control over society. This is due to its basic structure of consolidating all the power and resources, but then they are never relinquished to the people (hence why commies insist real communism has never been tried, in spite of it all being done the communist way). And Socialism has hardly ever been successfully demonstrated, and never on a large scale. Human nature tends away from egalitarian sharing and toward private ownership. This will never change.... but that is digressing from the objective question really, I just wanted to know the redeeming qualities of socialism from your perspective, not your opinion on who and how the country should be governed.
