originally yoga was just a theory of meditation/mental discipline

We wuz yoga

then it developed some poses like basically sitting, standing, etc. Still meditation focused. Then YMCA introduces static stretching from swedish gymnastics and India attempts to incorporate it into a fitness program with their national characteristics so they merge in the meditation/yoga part

then it migrates almost directly to California and white girls

All the classic poses can be seen in the original gymnastics texts though
