Like, if people want to go to college why is it anyone’s business?

2019-02-18 21:56:34 UTC

Nah I think it's worth discussing

2019-02-18 21:56:35 UTC

Because of government subsidized loans

2019-02-18 21:56:45 UTC

And preferential hiring

2019-02-18 21:56:56 UTC

because naive high school kids and their families may sign up for tens of thousands of dollars of debt not realizing it might be a poor investment

2019-02-18 21:57:15 UTC

And?

2019-02-18 21:57:30 UTC

Anyway, dishonest professors do exist, but I imagine that that's generally at the lower levels where they can get away with having a vague rubric.

2019-02-18 21:57:54 UTC

@DixieBoy76 - KY because it signifies a big problem in society

2019-02-18 21:58:08 UTC

Not to mention the whole tribal nepotism issue from (((them)))

2019-02-18 21:58:14 UTC

What’s that

2019-02-18 21:58:35 UTC

Is that an epic merchant meme

2019-02-18 21:58:45 UTC

most people in IE should go to college

2019-02-18 21:58:51 UTC

ehhhhh

2019-02-18 21:58:54 UTC

College is cool!

2019-02-18 21:59:01 UTC

College is necessary to gain institutional power

2019-02-18 21:59:02 UTC

@Kingfish you are literally not worth conversing with at this point

2019-02-18 21:59:22 UTC

@Danpat Let's be respectful fellas.

2019-02-18 21:59:33 UTC

When adults of working class that otherwise should be working, are instead studying, taking out debt to do so, because society told them it’s a smart idea, there’s a problem

2019-02-18 21:59:41 UTC

@DixieBoy76 - KY we generally want people to do well and be able to afford homes and be able to start families earlier than their 30s. It seems like (it may depend on the area), but at least for where I come from, trade school is not nearly advertised enough

2019-02-18 21:59:47 UTC

You’re just kinda making some really broad generalizations about a pretty elaborate and necessary system

2019-02-18 21:59:52 UTC

Alright well how bout some actual substance instead of just no I’m right

2019-02-18 22:00:03 UTC

Not at all lmao

2019-02-18 22:00:11 UTC

people should make more pragmatic choices in college, sure

2019-02-18 22:00:22 UTC

but it's a ticket to the dance

2019-02-18 22:00:38 UTC

trades are good too, especially if you start your own business

2019-02-18 22:00:45 UTC

College isn't right for everyone, and we definitely have more people going than should be

2019-02-18 22:00:54 UTC

It’s the same thing with the federal reserve is gay argument. Yeah the academic system right now is pretty rough because of who’s at the head. But it’s so deeply tangled with the job market at this point to reject the system is a setback not worth taking

2019-02-18 22:01:29 UTC

We should be utilizing and trying to work our way to these systems not completely shying away from them

2019-02-18 22:01:42 UTC

What if we founded Evropa University? Phd gang rise up

2019-02-18 22:02:00 UTC

@Kingfish what a straw man nobody ever said education was inherently bad

2019-02-18 22:02:26 UTC

2019-02-18 22:02:55 UTC

I wouldn't make a blanket statement like "most people in IE should go". You should look at your financial situation, how you did in high school, what you want to do in life, your family situation, etc, and make a calculated decision. I think it's dangerous the way we pressure teenagers into it like it's something they have to do. @NateDahl76

2019-02-18 22:03:15 UTC

@Danpat I just popped in here for 3 seconds and already I notice you didn't heed Ian's message tagging you

2019-02-18 22:03:54 UTC

Im not allowed to disagree with someone?

2019-02-18 22:04:48 UTC

I agree to an extent @Jacob . But I *would* make a blanket statement like that for IE. Won't pressure anyone, but even small institutional roles can have a big impact, and IE members are mostly intelligent enough to get into a high paying field otherwise

2019-02-18 22:06:04 UTC

I think that's true, that most people here have the IQ for it. Though college can be pretty rough financially and even if it *does* pay off within years, being set back for those 4 years can be very difficult.

2019-02-18 22:06:16 UTC

True that

2019-02-18 22:06:26 UTC

@Danpat of course you are, but we just need to remain respectful when disagreeing.
