It was not safe. It might shock the power workers was the stupid explanation though to do it you had to disconnect from the Grid. If you did that you could be fined and possibly arrested.

That's not exclusively solar. It just means you have to have a separate breaker panel for emergencies. That's just safety

The issue is connecting a generator or panels to the main circuit can theoretically send a back cureent through the power lines
