As promised, a crash course on melodies:

How to make an epic melody:

How I approach melody is in 4's: The base melody is 4 bars, but the full melody is 16 bars.

So the first 4 is the motif, or the basic idea of the song. These are the first groups of notes that makes a song recognizable.

The next 4 bars is similar to the last 4, but I make a small change to it. I might change a note or two, or remove one, or change the rhythm slightly. The idea is to make it related to the first but it sounds different enough to maintain interest.

Then at the midway point (8 bars) is when I put in a drum fill or transition. Maybe the hats roll, or I throw in a chord sample, to let you know that these bars are over and that the next ones will.be even more epic

The next 4 is built on the last 4, where I change the melody again, but this time it's a more dramatic change. So maybe I change more notes, or complete change the rhythm. The idea is to juxtapose this part of the melody with the 1st half, again to maintain interest, but it's also to increase the tension of the song. It will help build excitement.

Then in the last 4 bars, I will try to mirror the first 4, but at the end of this segment, It will feel like it "ends". The melody resolves, and loops back into the beginning. As a cheat, the last note of this segment is usually a half step below the first note of the first bar of your melody; this will.help loop it nicely.

Also at the end of this 16 bar loop is when most rap beats have a "pause". They will cut the drums or bass to let the melody play, or they will cut the beat entirely for a moment to let the lyrics play. This is a simple way to add nuance to your music without much effort, and you'll notice this trick a lot

^aforementioned guide using the Key of D:

Start in the key of D:

If you want a basic pop melody, the notes to choose are: D, F, G, A, C

If you want a sad melody: D, E, F, A, A#

If you want a rly dark melody: D, D#, F, A, A#

HOW TO MAKE MELODIES:

-Start by deciding the "rhythm" of your melody. Where are the short and long notes and how do they sound in your head? Record the MIDI notes into FL Studio using your keyboard. Focus on just pressing a single key (you will notice that the bottom row of letters on ur keyboard correspond to music notes in the piano roll). Hit the z key and just record the rhythm. You will fix the notes later.
- From there, always start the melody with your root (D) and pick the other notes in the scale as you deem fit. Only pick these notes for now.
- at the end of each 2 -4 bars you want to aim for the 5th (A) or the highest note before the octave (D higher up)
-in short you also want to break your melody into 4 parts.
-the first part is the motif, or the few notes you play that will be repeated all throughout your song. This gives it structure.
-the 2nd part is similar to the first but with minor changes. Maybe you shift a note or two around, add some, remove some, or adjust length of notes. Use your mind's ear to determine what sounds right.
-the 3rd part resembles the first two but has more changes. What makes this different is that it sounds more "tense", or it feels as if it wants to resolve to something
-the final part is the "answer to the 3rd, where it feels at rest. This part should also be able to loop back into the 1st part
-each part is between 2-4 bars, for a total of a melody spanning anywhere from 8 to 16 bars. Sometimes you might make it shorter or longer, but stick with this until you get a feel for it.

**My Catholic Faith** by Louis La Ravoire Morrow

A great book to read if you are interested in how the Catholic and Apostolic Church works. Summarized in the preface of the book reads off as such, “Dear Reader: This book is a complete manual of religion for the general reader. It explains many subjects and answers many questions that often perplex Catholics and non-Catholics alike....” it continues afterwards explaining how this book can help understanding for Catholics, non-Catholics, Orthodox Christians, Protestants, and even atheists. Separated into three main sections, 1. What to Believe, 2. What to do, and 3. Means of Grace, you can flip to a subsection of each main section and read a couple pages about a specific topic. The book is excellently laid out and there is no trouble navigating, however some terms might need a quick google search before continuing your reading. I will link a PDF file of the exact hard copy I am reading from. Anyways, if you are interested you should at least open the PDF, go to the table of contents, and read a couple paragraphs of something that interests you regarding the Catholic Church.

Almighty, eternal God, be merciful and listen to our prayer that our beloved separated brethren Orthodox and Protestants may be with us, the Catholic and Apostolic Church, that all division may disappear and that there will be “one Shepherd” and “one Flock.” Amen.
