A region economically benefits from unified and simplified laws and regulations as well as a common currency

2018-12-15 03:02:19 UTC

Makes capitalism much easier to happen

2018-12-15 03:02:44 UTC

Not to mention a common language makes trade much smoother

2018-12-15 03:04:06 UTC

>pure economic take
You're disregarding that you're mashing up many, many, many ethnicites into one state, which will inevitably have competing interests.

2018-12-15 03:05:58 UTC

Capitalism usually brings along mutual prosperity

2018-12-15 03:06:40 UTC

And the interests of Europe can best be protected if Europe were united

2018-12-15 03:09:12 UTC

But some Europeans are vastly different from others. Like Greeks and Scandinavians. Where the cultures are separated and the people themselves are very different.

2018-12-15 03:11:19 UTC

Couldn't culture be distinct from the law?

2018-12-15 03:12:34 UTC

Regions may retain their local culture and let it naturally evolve and mix over time. There's no reason for a government or series of laws to change this

2018-12-15 03:14:07 UTC

I admit the Latin part was a bit dumb, but still, unification offers more good than bad. Look at the unification of Germany under Bismarck

2018-12-15 03:20:25 UTC

Those were germans though

2018-12-15 03:20:48 UTC

He unified a single ethnicity

2018-12-15 03:20:58 UTC

Stop pinging

2018-12-15 03:21:14 UTC

Like the austrians those are germans too <:SquidDab:459545666725609493>

2018-12-15 03:22:58 UTC

I doubt all Germans are ethnically identical

2018-12-15 03:23:36 UTC

They've rarely ever been unified in their history, starting off as small barbaric tribes to a clusterfuck of tiny kingdoms

2018-12-15 03:24:05 UTC

Yet they were still able to unify despite differences in culture and history

2018-12-15 03:24:52 UTC

That’s globalism

2018-12-15 03:24:57 UTC

Imperialism is the big gay

2018-12-15 03:25:05 UTC

and why would you want a super eu

2018-12-15 03:25:16 UTC

do you want to incoperate the retarded meds and Anglo’s?

2018-12-15 03:25:19 UTC

and Slavs

2018-12-15 03:25:21 UTC

Because the Roman Empire was sexy

2018-12-15 03:26:19 UTC

The Germans are one "ethnic __group__". They already had the same language, religion, morality, etc. Now look at countries with multiple ethnicities in Europe: the former Yugoslavia, Spain (Catalonians and Basque want independence), UK (Scots want independence), Russia (Chechens and others want independence), etc., etc., etc.

2018-12-15 03:26:35 UTC

Austro-Hungarian Empire being another obvious example

2018-12-15 03:28:19 UTC

Hello

2018-12-15 03:28:21 UTC

There is a natural drive to self-preservation which being interlaced with other ethnicities is counter-intuitive to.

2018-12-15 03:31:24 UTC

Then Europe will remain fractured, having the many different ethnicities cooperating only within their small group identity

2018-12-15 03:32:09 UTC

The people may be happier this way, sure, but they will be weak, easily dominated by a stronger foreign force

2018-12-15 03:33:18 UTC

If you laud Capitalism so high, I'd assume as many do for competition breeding progress, then by the same token wouldn't a disunited Europe breed technological progress via competing tension? War, for instance, is the greatest catalyst to technology.

2018-12-15 03:34:28 UTC

That's true I agree that Europe outclassed Asia in technology because of the existential pressure to advance war tech

2018-12-15 03:35:04 UTC

But I don't see Europe waging war against itself now. And governments competing with each other isn't as good as corporations competing

2018-12-15 03:35:38 UTC

And capitalist competition does occur in a more open market unhindered by governments

2018-12-15 03:36:21 UTC

It's not like you are obligated to fight in this scenario. The US and USSR never outright warred each other, yet heaps of technology came out of the Cold War.

2018-12-15 03:38:02 UTC

So would you say governments would compete to have better policies so that citizens wouldn't emigrate to neighboring governments?

2018-12-15 03:38:23 UTC

i.e. Switzerland

2018-12-15 03:39:53 UTC

Well, ideally, government policies would not be in favor of citizens not meeting ethnic criteria -- going back to what we were discussing before.

2018-12-15 03:42:07 UTC

Granted, that's how it would work out anyway if countries were based on ethnicity in the first place, to prevent inter-ethnic tension

2018-12-15 03:45:35 UTC
2018-12-15 03:47:15 UTC

However, it does prevent trans-cultural diffusion

2018-12-15 03:47:44 UTC

European cultures can learn technologies from each other, though this only happens through contact
