To be clear I think faking this kind of stuff during the space race is a very plausible conspiracy with a clear motive and also something that would be easy to fake. I still think the earth is round, but am open to other ways of thinking regarding that.

I am curious, though. For what reason would anyone have to keep such a secret?

I haven't done much research on this topic, or any conspiracy for that matter. From what I've heard, it's tied to religion in some way. I want to hear your thoughts on it.
