O well there are a lot of reasons for a few examples: For money (maybe?), to hide more land that is on earth (unlikely), for power (also unlikely), for God (lol wat), because there is no God ( <:lul:484994724118134784> ) to more reasonable answers like: The fact that there is no life outside from earth and they are hiding the fact for our 'greater' good by continuing to push that we are on a globe earth and there are *clearly* things out there it is pretty obvious now that we have never had any contact from things outside of this world in 'space' and we wont ever. Going to another planet is also out of the question, and it will never happen during our lifetimes I can assure you of that so in the end it could be for money or they just dont want to know for another reason (seems to be all about the money tbh)
