Dickbutt will be our own Killroy

2020-04-29 00:11:38 UTC

Been designing a rifle to build for my fiance lately. She's tiny and a bit timid when it comes to firearms, so I've been working on finding the right balance of weight, size, and gas system length. Likely gonna put a noveske pig on it to direct the blast away since that's the main thing that bothers her when shooting

2020-04-29 00:17:25 UTC

Midlength 14.5 shoots pretty soft with an A5 buffer kit. My GF likes it a lot

2020-04-29 00:17:32 UTC

So far what I'm looking at is:
receiver set I already have from aero, no forward assist
g$ trigger I already have - about 4.5lbs
sba3 brace of course
Faxon 11.5 mid length with adjustable gas block
13" carbon fiber mlok handguard I already have
Noveske kx3 (which at a little over 3" just peeks out from the handguard)
jp captured standard buffer to smooth out the recoil more
bcm grip I have, might look into slimmer grips if it's comfortable for her smol hands
might put a handstop on there or something, mostly for safety

2020-04-29 00:20:45 UTC

I have an 11.5 ar already which feels like it'd be just her size, but it's a bit heavier duty due to the g$ rail, huey, flip magnifier, and flashlight. Given that my 16" build with a similar barrel and same handguard weighs about 5 pounds before optics, should be super handy for her

2020-04-29 00:22:49 UTC

might go with a trijicon 1x42 reflex sight because it doesn't have a power switch or anything for her to worry about, just point and shoot

Who has experiance in nvgs looking for something weapon mountable

2020-04-29 01:45:03 UTC

I believe the pvs14 is weapon mountable and good to go

2020-04-29 01:45:04 UTC

@Bif I have a 308 rated scope for sale atm
USNV gen 3 autogated tube

2020-04-29 01:46:10 UTC

Also if you go for the PVS14 you might as well use a helmet mount no real reason to use a unit like that and spend that $$$ to mount it
mounting I think is best with magnified optics

2020-04-29 01:47:34 UTC

Yes PVS14 can be weapon mounted you mount it behind a red dot and in front of a magnified optic an instructor I took several classes with used that setup with an ACOG when he was deployed and said he fealt like he was cheating

2020-04-29 01:48:34 UTC

JRH enterprises has good prices on PVS14s. As far as something weapon mounted thermal works better pulsar makes a good unit for 1800

2020-04-29 01:48:54 UTC

Thermal is very good for hunting but NVGs are better for identifying your target

2020-04-29 01:49:09 UTC

Thermal is great for detection

2020-04-29 01:49:18 UTC

NV is identification

2020-04-29 01:49:39 UTC

Plenty of hunters use a mix of both to identify animals at longer ranges or in foliage

2020-04-29 01:49:56 UTC

sounds like a very heavy rifle. I could see doing something like that to a mounted weapon I guess, but I don't have much experience when it comes to that

2020-04-29 01:50:17 UTC

@Artemis it would have to be a very purpose driven rifle

2020-04-29 01:50:20 UTC

I've watched a bunch of tod Huey's hog hunting videos they use nods to navigate and thermals for their optics because a target is easier to ID with thermal than nods according to him

2020-04-29 01:50:21 UTC

Thermal has its place, but TNVC has a full color adapter for pvs14s.

2020-04-29 01:52:33 UTC

My mext big purchase will be a PVS 14 i live on a piece of rural property now our power went out from a tornado and I was sitting by my living room window wishing I had nods don't want to be there in a more strenuous situation

2020-04-29 01:53:29 UTC

@Red [neck] tech hunting animals and military targets are different

2020-04-29 01:53:39 UTC

especially when they'll be similarly equiped

2020-04-29 02:00:55 UTC

Good point I took a class where we were moving aound at night couple guy had nods guy in the other group that was following us left his active IR on guys in our group that had them said it looked like we were being chased by a freight train

2020-04-29 02:06:19 UTC

XD

2020-04-29 02:21:21 UTC

would carry, ngl

2020-04-29 02:22:58 UTC

I was never fond of how a glock looked honestly

2020-04-29 02:23:41 UTC

I haven’t either but that’s legit

2020-04-29 02:24:51 UTC

Only sidearm I’ve seen that I like is a Sig M17

2020-04-29 02:26:18 UTC

I don't really like the look or feel of glocks but I respect them. Eventually I'd like to get one

2020-04-29 02:26:45 UTC

Not a glock guy. Love my CZ

2020-04-29 02:27:32 UTC

Definitely partial to my M&Ps. Have the shield 9, 40, and the M&P-15

2020-04-29 02:28:42 UTC

So I was cleaning up my 3D glock print, and the fuckin trigger guard pops off. Thankfully when working with either PLA or PLA+, testers modeling cement is perfect, because it melts that material and welds it together stronger than it originally was. For those of you interested in printing some of your own parts.

2020-04-29 02:32:26 UTC

Just JB weld that baby back together if it pops off again

2020-04-29 03:57:56 UTC

Anyone know of anyone selling new Beretta ARX100 16" barrels? Normally I'd just go to, you know...beretta. But they're closed indefinitely because fuck Maryland.

Only ones I can find are 10".

2020-04-29 03:59:10 UTC

I don’t believe I have a lead there.

2020-04-29 04:04:23 UTC

Anyone have opinions on the Sig Sauer P320/M17? I bought one in December, don’t shoot it much, mainly just as my bedside gun

2020-04-29 04:06:15 UTC

Bad quality control on early production runs, as is typical of Sig USA. And the M17 has a total ass trigger for some reason. Stock gen 5 glock trigger is miles better. But if you get one that's not broken from the factory, they're good and reliable.

2020-04-29 04:07:57 UTC

Flannel daddy put out a good vid on them today

2020-04-29 04:09:07 UTC

That was the M18, not the M17. And when it was manufactured makes a big ass difference with all Sig USA products.
