Blogging is suspended for the time being. I have blogged daily here for nearly seven years, at an average rate of about 1.5 posts per day - but at present I have nothing much to say and (linked with this) no imaginative sense of an 'audience'. It may be that this phase of my work is coming to an end, as so often happens in life after seven years. We shall see...
he's a bit lame about this aspect

he says he restricts commenting to a degree because why should he let random people undermine his words?
as if that is some right?
and he isn't wrong about that
but at the same time, you make yourself vulnerable to foster greater insight
his words should put commenting into a new, important context
rather than curtailing it
and because he has this attitude, he is not able to receive the appreciation due to him
which he would not acknowledge anyway, he wouldn't feel this is anything important
yet it will be there
so its lack will result in dissatisfaction ("am I even doing anything?")
as in many things, reaction to a wrong aspect of the way things are now leads to being led astray in a different way
one of satan's great tools is establishing dichotomies
not necessarily false ones either
There's a certain type of commenters who would drain you without giving much back in return. They're ones that should be lurking more, but don't, and so just waste both side's time.

Yet, you don't know exactly which comments he's blocking, so you can't really say.
people who have something to say will be hesitant to
that's the worst part
that hesitation is enough
you need to remove all barriers of motivation for such people
the price is making it easier for dumb people to have their way
the response to which is curation, which is not perfect

I'm sure he's reasonable, and would accept comments well intentioned and well thought out and relevant to the article.
people who are thoughtful etc. would not be sure about their thoughtfulness
he is reasonable, and does do that
my point is that even by being reasonable, he would cast such a pall that the effect would be far greater than (perhaps deep down) desired
