But there was nothing new for me

his fundamental thesis that modern life makes us miserable by structure and experience is one that really resonates with me

And furthermore that it is spiritual in origin

He cites environment

As the culprit of diminished fertility

But I think that is not primary though it has some effect

I do not get white peoples' obsession with having suburbs and electronics

if they don't have them they will despair and stop having kids

or other peoples' good opinions of them

having others think highly of you is easy, just use big words, flatter everyone and wear a suit

I think its deeper than that though it may be rationalized that way in their heads

Its such a basic drive

Its absence is exceptional and requires an exceptional explanation

Its taken for granted

That too is secondarily exceptional

So one, a big deal and two, not thinking a big deal is a big deal

Two problems both both not easily explainable by immediate causes
