it's not that I think that reconstructed paganry lacks interesting ideas or a sufficiently developed conception of morality / the self / etc

but when people reimagine the whole thing as an alternate modern religious ideology, it just becomes the same thing as wicca or whatever, where losers are seeking an "off the shelf" identity which they believe is a real identity because they don't understand what self or identity is beyond the aesthetic
