hey @fallot is Sam Harris right about muzzies

2017-10-18 21:40:01 UTC

I can see converts to Islam. However Muslim countries are not exactly modern in the cultural sense. They've, at most, reacted to encroachments within their own paradigms.

2017-10-18 21:40:59 UTC

Another way of wording it would be that they are essentially fighting an external threat whereas we must must excise a cancer.

2017-10-18 21:41:05 UTC

if fallot can't play right now, I'll just admit I think Sam Harris is generally in his thesis in part for the reason that you're stating

2017-10-18 21:41:15 UTC

what sorts of encroachments

2017-10-18 21:42:02 UTC

For all there savagery Muslims have kept Marxists jews and feminism down

2017-10-18 21:42:28 UTC

what particularly @UOC ?

2017-10-18 21:42:35 UTC

Sam Harris is in general, a clever silly

2017-10-18 21:42:38 UTC

though an intelligent man

2017-10-18 21:42:52 UTC

@fallot I don't want to put more effort into the question. answer on the general level lol

2017-10-18 21:43:06 UTC

yeah he's clever enough to be wrong in ways I enjoy listening to sometimes

2017-10-18 21:43:10 UTC

he's got a particular bone to pick with Islam for a bunch of reasons but particularly I think because its the only existing religion seriously adhered to on a global scale

2017-10-18 21:43:54 UTC

They have developed a siege mentality of sorts. Unlike Christianity, the Islamic World has had to face the full brunt of secular liberal modernity at gun point. So conservative Muslims tend towards puritanism, anti-intellectualism, and a hostility towards art.

2017-10-18 21:43:59 UTC

yeah he's always saying "at least the christians don't actually believe in their god"

2017-10-18 21:44:15 UTC

bit more complex than that @Sriadobada

2017-10-18 21:44:18 UTC

you're not wrong

2017-10-18 21:44:30 UTC

I am not out to write an essay on the matter.

2017-10-18 21:44:34 UTC

@Sriadobada not necessarily a bad thing

2017-10-18 21:44:56 UTC

the complicating issue is Salafism, and that Saudi projection of Islam is what appears strongly in the zeitgeist

2017-10-18 21:45:02 UTC

certainly in a western perception

2017-10-18 21:45:17 UTC

Wahabism?

2017-10-18 21:45:24 UTC

yeah pretty much

2017-10-18 21:45:31 UTC

more than that, but yeah, pretty much

2017-10-18 21:45:52 UTC

these people have broken with tradition, though they seem very extreme

2017-10-18 21:45:58 UTC

they are like the christian puritans in a sense

2017-10-18 21:46:39 UTC

To keep culture alive sometimes you have to be extreme

2017-10-18 21:46:39 UTC

The extent to which they control marriage and relationships is designed to keep the kafirs out. Whether these practices are agreeable or not I will leave to others.

2017-10-18 21:46:41 UTC

all modern jihadism stems from these ideas/people

2017-10-18 21:46:53 UTC

Kuffars I think is the term

2017-10-18 21:46:55 UTC

that's just normal human behaviour I think, keep the outgroup out

2017-10-18 21:47:03 UTC

kafir singular, kuffar plural

2017-10-18 21:47:39 UTC

all human society, including the west, controlled marriage and reproduction pretty strictly

2017-10-18 21:47:52 UTC

parentally arranged marriage was the rule even in the west

2017-10-18 21:48:05 UTC

In my opinion the West has lost its way

2017-10-18 21:48:22 UTC

Like completely off the beaten path

2017-10-18 21:48:26 UTC

yeah

2017-10-18 21:48:28 UTC

unfortunate

2017-10-18 21:48:58 UTC

and it remains to be seen whether the reaction to that will be corrective

2017-10-18 21:48:59 UTC

or destructive

2017-10-18 21:49:09 UTC

Funny thing is we were warned

2017-10-18 21:49:37 UTC

Kruschev said they would destroy us from within
