Learned that after I helped a girl who was super confused study for an algebra final back when I was in community college.

She told me how she was doing it and how she was taught in class, I just said, “Alright, so I want you to completely forget everything about how you were taught and just do this.” Showed her three examples. She ended up getting four weeks of learning within one hour. Ended up going from having no clue to acing the test with an A-. Sometimes technique makes all the difference.
