though if you don't reclass him immidately after he maxes out he just becomes a burden later on

He doesn't level up very much

that's because he's an advanced class

you normally get those by using the gold reclass tool

so he can't use that one, you actually have to swap his class instead of upgrading it

How do you swap it?

silver reclass thingy

so instead of horse knight or whatever his class was, you can make him a Paladin or a Guard or something
