the way to get started is to buy ETH off of a site like coinbase, gdax, or gemini.
from there you transfer it into a crypto exchange and start trading

So I put about $100 on the exchange in BTC, because it wasn't doing anything sitting in coinbase, but I only plan on playing with half of it for now
