What did you do?

2019-04-09 05:22:02 UTC

I called him out for being a shill lmao

2019-04-09 05:22:16 UTC

He kept praising EPIC for giving developers a higher cut of the pay

2019-04-09 05:22:58 UTC

And I told him to stop belittling the legitimate concerns people have about the launcher, like already having account information breached twice

2019-04-09 05:23:13 UTC

And being 40% by Tencent, which is partnered with the Chinese government

2019-04-09 05:23:28 UTC

Apparently I was too "negative" for him lmao

Surely you see the pro-steam corporate anti-epic shillfagging for what it is. It's company vs company fighting a war and whoever "wins" this battle is not really going to change things for gamers much.

I don't want an epic "win" either

Putting aside questions of whether corporation A or B (reduced to such a choice already? they can both diaf) -- all else being considered equal, I'd much rather have competing companies. But it is important to question the ethics.

2019-04-11 16:07:41 UTC

The ethics of saying your launcher is perfectly safe despite two data breeches? Do you honestly think that the only people complaining about epic are just corporate shills trying to push you to steam? You don't care about them getting caught trying to access a steam file that contained sensitive information, all while subverting the steam API to access what they claimed to want to access?

2019-04-11 16:08:22 UTC

As it is now, the epic games launcher is borderline spyware.

2019-04-11 16:10:38 UTC

Besides that, buying out devs/publishers isn't competition, it's underhanded Chinese tactics to monopolize the market. Steam should change to combat this sway by lowering their cut, but the problem is that epic has exclusivity, which brings the console wars shit to PC.

2019-04-11 18:03:10 UTC

Fuckin commies

"Do you honestly think that the only people complaining about epic are just corporate shills trying to push you to steam?" No, that is not how consensensus cracking works.

And no, I don't care that they were reading a steam file. I mean sure it's wrong but that kind of thing happens all the time more or less. Far worse than realized if this makes you shiver.

Your outrage is noted. If you'd like to work on a launchpad that emulates epic/steam/etc well enough to remove yokes, that'd be good.

It's precisely my point that gamer outrage is stoked by manipulators all to the good of Steam. Completely innocent I'm sure

Not a single undue idea. Any bumbling is entirely gamertag's name's fault

Don't let me get in the way though, it's good fun to let it rage. I much prefer master A to master B, I'm a good gamer 😉

2019-04-11 18:31:50 UTC

it's simply isn't the same as the console war. Epic and Steam can be downloaded for free

2019-04-11 23:13:01 UTC

```I mean sure it's wrong but that kind of thing happens all the time more or less.```
That "Steam file" had user data on that. Not even Steam's API touches that file. Why did Epic need access to that if it's not required? This whole "It happens all the time so don't worry about it" shit can be applied to everything. "People bribe their way into colleges all the time so why is it a problem?" "Yeah, governments are corrupt and politicians do dirty things all the time, so why bother cleaning it up?" It's an appeal that holds no water, especially considering the main purpose of this discord server.
2019-04-11 23:15:41 UTC
```. If you'd like to work on a launchpad that emulates epic/steam/etc well enough to remove yokes, that'd be good.```
>If you don't like it, make your own goy
The problem isn't the fact that Epic and Steam are different launchers. The problem is that Epic is trying to access data it has no right accessing. They're doing anti-consumer practices by literally buying out competition and screwing over pre-order and kickstarter backers who ended up getting a different product than what was promised.

2019-04-11 23:18:17 UTC

That entire spiel was a strawman. You excused the potentially illegal accessing of private user data by dismissing it as common practice (spoiler: it isn't).

2019-04-11 23:20:13 UTC

You didn't address the data breaches, all you did was snidely act like a stereotypical centrist on this issue while claiming you're not an Epic shill.

2019-04-11 23:20:27 UTC

It's one thing not to care, it's another thing entirely to completely misrepresent

2019-04-11 23:20:58 UTC

And frankly, that's some damned shilling behavior if i've ever seen it.

I explained my reasoning for my lack of caring. As I've stated several times I'm more than happy to not change anyone's opinion on the issue, which is why I'm talking about it here where we have more to deal with

You can believe different than me. I may make fun but I won't say it's wrong or anything.
