They would need to know everything that was included in the systems those things ran on

yeah sure

but the military still has a pretty big software engineering deficit

I'm not sure that Microsoft provides their source code

there was this consultant the air force hired

and all he wound up doing

was teching them to program basic things in python

lol

since they had this horrible mutated mass of bullshit

with like

excel

and special tools

to plan fuel stuff

and had given up

and were just using the white board

like they knew math and were smart

they just didnt know how to computer

that happens

tech has advanced VERY quickly

so its sortof like yes they know to demand everything that goes onto the machine

so people haven't been able to catch up

but their ability to evaluate that

is lacking

yeah thats the main issue

things are moving way too fast for the military

they have kindof just been going along for centuries now

then suddenly they are in this like

psychadelic horror show

and they just

dont even know whats going on

once they go through the paperwork to adopt new tech, by the time it's finished there is already something twice as advanced out there

if not more so

its not that they are fundamentally not capable in terms of hardware

they arent going to get massacred per se

but its getting way ahead of them in some ways

some military computers are running on VERY outdated OS and using some sketchy fucking protocols
