it was based on the standards of the time so they just never bothered changing it to metric

its easier to stick to something established that works than to adopt a new method and relearn everything

also many aspects of our society rely on English Standard and to change that might fuck some stuff up

I personally think Metric is better but understand why we largely still use English Standard here

so adapting to another countries standards wouldnt be difficult in terms of speed limits
