So... I learned a few months ago, that a muslim friendof mine in University, gets preferential treatment because of her race/gender ETC.
1) she's a woman. (on a computing course.)
2) she's nonwhite
3) she's muslim. (complete with headscarf.)
Due to this, she recieves emails BEFORE anyone else when it comes to work placements, or opportunities to represent the university, because, obviously, she's a good token-face t promote their inclusion and diversity...
This is clear discrimination in the way my university treats differrent groups of people, but is it even worth the hassle to raise this issue with heads-of-schools and department heads? Will anything even happen? I have a feeling my life would become harder, if I did.
just stick though it with your head down
students are a commodity for schools, they're more inclined to listen to the people funding them
I'm not sure that's the case. Inclined to pretend to listen perhaps... I'm probably not going to say anything though. Too much potential hassle for, what is, a minor problem.
well look at it this way,
if you're against their system of "equalityyyyyy" they'll hate you and make your life a hell
They wont listen to students cuz once you do, everyone will have an "idea on how to improve things" and it will just be bothersome
on the other hand, the people funding them don't offer advice, for them its "you listen or you're not getting paid money"
@NotQuiteHuman depends on how much you value your education vs fighting discrimination. I would keep your head down and only supply information anonymously to those who might be willing to fight. It seems that those who wish to push their political ideologies in such an overt way tend to not care about the business implications. In fact, destroying an institution might be viewed as a win to them as they "won a battle against capitalism and the male dominated system". As such, they will have no problem keeping your money and then kicking you out.
Also there are some laws and policies that institutions follow which might make bringing up such a claim as some form of discrimination and kick you out for it. Depending on where you go to school. Things like Title IX are rather scare and by-pass due process.

Im in UK, if that helps. A country where hundreds of people per year go to jail over tweets, jokes and memes.
But how can it be considered discrimination, to point out discrimination? :S
Idk, how can a Jew be a Nazi?
Or a black guy be a white supremacist?
How is it not racist to call a black guy a coon?
If you can tell me an answer to these that make sense then I will tell you how it's discrimination.
Actually not discrimination. I bet they'd label it hate speech.
