not all languages have gendered nouns

2018-03-05 02:40:59 UTC

@Arch-Fiend but if gender =/= sex, then a boat does not have a gender, it has a sex

2018-03-05 02:41:16 UTC

gender doesent equel sex

2018-03-05 02:41:21 UTC

the boat has no sexual characteristics, sorry

2018-03-05 02:41:26 UTC

because there is only male gender, female gender, and neutral gendered words in languages

2018-03-05 02:41:31 UTC

you can't have it both ways

2018-03-05 02:41:42 UTC

thats because gender doesent discribe sexual characteristics

2018-03-05 02:41:45 UTC

so gender could only be binary if that is the point you tried to make

2018-03-05 02:41:52 UTC

well no physical ones

2018-03-05 02:42:09 UTC

gender only defines social and psychological sexual characteristics

2018-03-05 02:42:18 UTC

which would mean it defines nothing

2018-03-05 02:42:24 UTC

boats don't have any

2018-03-05 02:42:29 UTC

which is why i dont like the word

2018-03-05 02:42:44 UTC

boats are called she

2018-03-05 02:42:49 UTC

do something about it

2018-03-05 02:43:22 UTC

btw, afaik boat is male in spanish

2018-03-05 02:43:25 UTC

barco

2018-03-05 02:43:36 UTC

thats fine, now its male

2018-03-05 02:43:39 UTC

or bote

2018-03-05 02:43:48 UTC

la lancha is female

2018-03-05 02:44:06 UTC

doesent make gender any more useful a way to define sex

2018-03-05 02:44:17 UTC

now that inanimate objects have genders

2018-03-05 02:44:20 UTC

you basically destroyed your own argument though, genders in languages are binary

2018-03-05 02:44:38 UTC

i never said genders wernt binary

2018-03-05 02:44:42 UTC

there's male, female and neutral

2018-03-05 02:44:43 UTC

i said i dont care about them

2018-03-05 02:45:11 UTC

and that it doesent define sex

2018-03-05 02:45:13 UTC

you were arguing "gender =/= sex"

2018-03-05 02:45:38 UTC

sex doesent define bianary, sex that we know of has a bianary

2018-03-05 02:46:39 UTC

you lost me, idk what you meant

2018-03-05 02:47:14 UTC

what you said before the last thing i said only makes sense with the thing you said before that if your defining bianary as sex

2018-03-05 02:47:30 UTC

language has masculine, feminine, and neutral. If you want to call that arbitrary distinctions gender, then fine. But that is a random ass thing to call gender

2018-03-05 02:48:10 UTC

also probably not appropriate because i believe it already has a name

2018-03-05 02:49:07 UTC

continuing with this thread of discussion.. so should languages invent 35 new ways to gender nouns?

2018-03-05 02:49:10 UTC

oh, it already has a name, grammatical gender, so i guess you can just call that gender

2018-03-05 02:49:19 UTC

well, sjw's would like that

2018-03-05 02:49:29 UTC

and good fucking luck to them, i'd like to see them try it

2018-03-05 02:49:31 UTC

would be amusing to see them try

2018-03-05 02:49:35 UTC

i havent called any arbitrary disstinction gender, at first i started with gender not existing, then i moved forward with the idea that if you want gender to exist then gender must define something different than sex because things without sex have gender, if you created a definition that made sense in that context for gender then gender would be social and psychological sexual characteristics

2018-03-05 02:50:04 UTC

gender always existed as another synonim to sex

2018-03-05 02:50:09 UTC

we didn't agree on that?
