I'm an American, so perhaps I have a different view on nationalism.. more patriotism really. I don't mind diversity so long as it allows for a homogenous culture. thats more or less the part of the culture war i'm against, when groups come here and won't assimilate. The UK situation with muslims is right up my alley, it interests me a lot.
Zero to that I would ask you why should they change themsleves?

In the past that was more of a defense mechanism, but since people aren't shamed into assimilation like europeans were its anyone's game

I would then ask you what makes to think non-whites can assimilate? the blacks in yor country who are descendants of slaves have been in your country for centuries haven't assimilated so why would new non-whites?

well japanese culture has emulated the west's for quite a while. sure they're rebelling against that in their own way but I think there's still an appreciation in most asian countries for white skin and blonde hair

You have to remeber that Japan was forced to became westernized. I think if America wasn't influencing them any more they would slowly created their own culture again.

I agree that the Japanese empire needed to de distoryed but my point is that Japan has become westernized after the war because they were forced to not because they just developed it like Europeans and Americans.
I just think forced is a harsh term. it was more like acqueisence. they nationalism'd so hard it was a religion for them. when that failed, they were broken.
