The day both of my parents were murdered.

We were leaving the theater, having just seen a Goofy Movie. It was pretty good.

Some sort of criminal came out of nowhere, and said “Give me your wallet, and… oh hey, you’re Thomas and Martha Wayne, of WayneCorp. And your little baby Bruce.”

“Yeah,” said my dad. “That’s us.”

“Wow. I was just gonna rob you, but like, I think I’ll murder you instead. Bang, ha ha, bang bang, haaa!”

“Blah,” said my dad, spitting up blood and guts and stuff. And my mom was all like “oh no, my pearls, I got shot right in the pearls and they’re flying everywhere…”

“Hey kid,” said the murderer thief, looking directly into my young boy eyes. “Don’t even worry about all this. Just like, forget it. Forget everything.”

But I didn’t forget. How could I?

Then my dad grabbed my boy arm, and said “Bruce, son, please… please you must now dedicate your life to beating up poor people. Get all jacked and beefy, dress up like a huge animal and just… just kick the shit out of all the poor people in the world.”

“Son, Bruce…” said my mom, also grabbing my arm. “Pick up every pearl. They went all over the place. Don’t lose a single one or I won’t love you when I’m in heaven. They’re expensive, Bruce.”

And then my parents were dead, and Batman was born.
