i'm thinking of allowing my students to use their notes on tests. i hope it will get them to read the textbook and write everything down, so they will at least know it in their short term memory, but i think the act of writing it down will be beneficial to them b/c it will end up in the long term memory too. good idea or recipe for disaster?

yes of course the questions will be harder. but my questions now are ass kicking hard. i usually do a question back of 5 and make them answer 4 of their choosing. no multiple choice, no short answer nothing like that. all "tell me what this event meant in the context of XYZ lives and events"
