I don't have a particular budget, but yeah I definitely don't spent that much on a single game unless I've been playing it for years.
Like last year I spent quite a bit on gaming, but only because the Nintendo Switch came out.
too give you an idea, i consider a game worth it, if it provided an hour of enjoyable gameplay for every euro spent
most games dont make that treshold tho
so i wait for sales
i never play shit on release anymore
I rarely buy games on release or preorder anymore, with Nintendo being the exception.
For the most part Nintendo has almost never let me down.
I think I remember someone, sometime, trying to make the argument that the rewards you get in different games from 'amiibos' were gambling. lol
I distinctly remember getting into that argument with someone, and I'm just sitting there going 'wut.'
issnt the reward set in stone?
Depends on the game. Some have very specific rewards, but other games kind of randomize the loot like in Zelda Breath of the Wild.
But you're not charged money to use an amiibo every time you use it; in fact, the only limitation on amiibo is that *you can only use it once a day.*
So even in bizarro world where amiibo *may* functionally be considered gambling, the amiibo *themselves* artificially prevent gambling by limiting you to only one 'charge' per day.
but you pay for it only once..
Exactly, you buy the figurine, and that's it.
Nothing like gambling.
Oh man, I wish I could remember who that argument was with now...
But yeah, there are a couple of ways you can argue the 'regulating lootboxes like gambling is incorrect' stance, but trying to say that "but then you have to regulate/ban amiibo too, then!" is not one of them. lol
well i guess lootboxes arent like gambling in that not all lootboxes give you shit you can trade with other people (liek you can win money at casinos)
the argument shouldnt be about how similar they are in mechanics i think
but on the spychological effect
though that might be too vague
It can be, but it can be made to be specific.
@>Cytos, de lieve goede synth @JadenFrostwolf for the record, there is a slight difference in how lootboxes work and how random card packs work, usually. and that is namely the ability to trade with someone else for what you want.
also, with things you physically own, you have the ability to get back or even make a profit, on cards you get if you wish to sell them.
and i believe you could use the ability get back lost money without spending more money as a way to make a dividing line between gambling and not gambling.
the difference between gambling and a risky investment, really.
Yeah, I myself was also referring also to electronic cards. I even name-dropped 'Hearthstone', which has no form of trade, that's all.
The „Back End“ of card packs is completely different from lootboxes also...
With the packs they release x amount of cards and y amount are „special“. If you bought all card packs you are guaranteed to get all y amount of „special“ cards... with lootboxes you are not guaranteed anything no matter how many you buy.
they are closer to true random though
Loot boxes? They are a lot of things, but random is not one of them.
assume a 10% crit rate, if it is assured you get a crit every 10 hits, it's not true random
this is that they did in LoL for example, they removed randomness to assure closer results to the balance
but assuring results ISN'T random
you can have a 10% chance to get something, open 100 boxes, and not get it. Welcome to true random 🎉
It would appear that patreon has now changed their guidelines and is policing speech of comedians not even on their platform, why anyone would continue to build a business on this is beyond me

* I mean what they complained about wasn't on their platform, it was on twitter / Facebook
That seems to be the new trend: platforms policing their user's actions even on other platforms that are not their own.
