Boy, this article in itself. I'm predicting a massive call for a complete ban on guns in Australia.
do it like in the UK . just make the Ar-15 really expensive
its £3,500 for an AR-15
a basic one at that.... http://www.lannertactical.com/tactical1/landing-page/CMMGMK4S.html
@wacka that is not even a school shooting. that is just a report of shots fired. which in cali means "there was a loud bang! i bet it was gunshots!...or someone dropping something in the hallway!"
"The sheriff's department was not able to confirm that shots had been fired at the campus. "
"The sheriff's department received an additional call about shots fired at a nearby elementary school but could not confirm that report. Deputies searched Manzanita Elementary School but did not find evidence of a crime."
oh, the article even confirmed as much
I guess they updated it.. good to know
fuck, my high school has 3 "bomb threats" in a row one year. Turns out people will report stupid shit to get out of school.

Homelessness is an interesting problem to tackle. There really is no "good" way to deal with it. Probably the only good way is to allow non profits and charities set up shelters or camps and let them run them. Just give them a place to operate. Let private citizens try and tackle trying get them back on their feet or connect them to other support. That way the towns or cities can say "they are doing something" while also not necessarily supporting or incentiving the life style nor use tax payer dollars.
I disagree. I think if citizens privatized that process, that process would involve a business model that puts them right back into homelessness. at least that's what it seems to me at a glance. I think what's best is to figure out why they're homeless
There's probably only a minority of homeless people who can actually be permanently helped out of their homelessness. That's where resources ought to be focused. It's like triage: help who you can actually help and don't waste resources helping those who are beyond help.
For those who are beyond helping, all that can be done is to minimize the harm they can do to society.
There are always going to be people who are too mentally ill, too extreme in personality, or too far gone to drug addiction to become functioning members of society.
@n- there is a reason i said "non-profit" and charities.
if there was a business model for it, then there would be business for it.
but turns out not many business that have figured out how to squeeze money out of debt ridden homeless people
out of curiosity, Alcoholics Anonymous is a non-profit organization, right?
I've got no sources to this, most of what I've heard is by word of mouth, but the large majority of it has been from former addicts
every single one of them states that AA is pretty much designed to make sure they go right back in there
do their member actually pay for that service? or is it free?
I'm actually not certain
"There are no dues or fees for AA membership. An AA group will usually have a collection during the meeting to cover expenses, such as rent, coffee etc, Members are free to contribute as much or as little as they wish."
