@Stefan Payne @Bookworm to comment on open carry, in that instance they were already a target. It's hard to say a politician becomes more of a target using open carry. This seems more like a show of force. A balance between deterrent and sorce of escalation. You could argue both but if it's protestors then it might be enough to just keep them off her person. If they are crazy enough to shoot her, her carrying a gun probably isn't gonna be their trigger.
