We all must recognise that we are divided on a knife's edge. Close elections will be the norm.

But it's so easy to make the allegation that people avoid doing it to avoid appearing as if they are using the law to attack their opposition.
I agree wholeheartedly, but it's one of those things where you have to be very careful. I'm guessing this is how Snipes got away with everything for so long.
I work in a business and we have policies for a reason.
You develop good policies before they are needed and you follow them religiously when they are needed.
Elections offices need to be religious about transparency. I have always voted in extremely transparent counties.
I can go on the internet and see exactly where and when my ballot was received and validated.
My Ballot:
November 6, 2018 General Election
Your ballot was received on October 26, 2018.
In vote-by-mail they can link every counted ballot to a voter
And it's all public record
Should ballots be anonymous?
My votes were anonymous
But my ballot was not
Voting is public record in Oregon
You shouldn't know who cast the vote but every ballot should be tracked. Kinda like UPS tracking number.
It's basically high end Quality Assurance.
If your ballot has a name on it so does your votes. We don't have names on our ballots. You are validated at the door, then the ballots are checked for completion. But never is there a name on a ballot.
Not saying that system is good, but it's anonymous. At least as close as you get.
Ballots and envelopes are separated by a committee, never less than three people present
a lot of this problem is coming from early and absentee voting. votes cast in person on election day are hard to tamper with.
The number should match
With proper procedures vote-by-mail can be quite secure. For those really worried (like me) you can deposit in secure boxes rather than place in the mail.
I love it because no lines, no issues with machines, no voter suppression. Lots of opportunity to sort out ballot issues.
And could take 3 weeks to get all the votes.
but "lots of opportunity to sort out ballot issues" is also lots of opportunity for fraud and tampering.
In Oregon that's not an issue. Vote-by-mail requires ballots to be in by election day. No late arrivals.
Washington is all absentee voting, so it takes 10 days before the cut off
The ballots procedures require proper security of the ballots
"secure box" I really don't trust that. I'm a little too good with my hands.
well, i don't know oregon. it may be a paragon of election integrity. but florida seems to be fucking this seemingly simple procedure up royally, mostly by excluding observers and having chain-of-custody failures.
I can't answer to that. I just know Oregon and Washington. I lived in IL for a short time but owned a house in WA and only rented in IL to remained a WA voter.
I now own houses in both OR and WA so switched to OR since that is where I am employed.
Mail is tamper-able. Secret police were extracting and re-inserting letters in the 1700s.
Like I said, I don't mail
And Washington has had it's own little "recount until we win" events in it's history.
Yes, but it's an option and alot of people do.
The ballots themselves require a signature and the signatures are compared to records
If there is a discrepency they call us
How? My signature never comes out the same way twice.
I can't be the only one.
