I think nationalism to some extent is a good thing. But only when it's centered around what makes your nation great. To simply say 'we're great because we're us' risks losing sight of those values.

As long as you have a core set of values that align, you can unify

I can agree with that. I just think that the wording used to describe it is very important so that the important nuances don't fall by the wayside

In the US, it's more likely a third party usurps one of the two parties as opposed to just joining them, historically.
