@Schedrevka That's the point

2018-07-04 22:45:28 UTC

It's kind of like the idea of God

2018-07-04 22:45:44 UTC

It unifies, even if it means different things for individuals

2018-07-04 22:46:05 UTC

I think nationalism to some extent is a good thing. But only when it's centered around what makes your nation great. To simply say 'we're great because we're us' risks losing sight of those values.

2018-07-04 22:46:08 UTC

As long as you have a core set of values that align, you can unify

2018-07-04 22:46:47 UTC

The idea of God: "some thug who will make you suffer for eternity if you don't do what he tells you to, no matter how much it conflicts with your morals." The far left is godly 😉

2018-07-04 22:46:54 UTC

People shape the nation, and in turn the nation shapes people

2018-07-04 22:47:34 UTC

_The idea of God: "some thug who will make you suffer for eternity if you don't do what he tells you to, no matter how much it conflicts with your morals."_ I'm reading that as banter

2018-07-04 22:47:37 UTC

I can agree with that. I just think that the wording used to describe it is very important so that the important nuances don't fall by the wayside

2018-07-04 22:48:54 UTC

I don't want to say I'm proud of something I didn't earn, but I will say I'm honored to have the opportunity to live up to the values that I want to hold.

2018-07-04 22:49:25 UTC

isn't that being proud?

2018-07-04 22:49:30 UTC

Nope

2018-07-04 22:49:51 UTC

Being proud of yourself for having that opportunity?

2018-07-04 22:50:23 UTC

I see it more as an obligation

2018-07-04 22:50:27 UTC

Shit, what is pride then anyway

2018-07-04 22:50:56 UTC

a sense of enjoying your superiority

2018-07-04 22:51:15 UTC

Nothing wrong with that

2018-07-04 22:51:48 UTC

Everyone likes being the top lobster in some aspect

2018-07-04 22:51:50 UTC

well i'm not against pride, i'm a proud person myself 😉 just joined the convo so i'm not sure on the view

2018-07-04 22:52:19 UTC

nuance between being proud to be an American and being honored to be an American

2018-07-04 22:52:31 UTC

a feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one's own achievements, the achievements of one's close associates, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired.

2018-07-04 22:52:38 UTC

consciousness of one's own dignity.

2018-07-04 22:53:13 UTC

You should feel proud to be american, that you can consider yourself part of the greatest country on the planet,
You should feel honored for the privilege to BE american

(and no i'm not american myself)

2018-07-04 22:53:37 UTC

Neither am I

2018-07-04 22:54:15 UTC

I feel proud to be Dutch

2018-07-04 22:54:41 UTC

zwijg jij! 😛

2018-07-04 22:54:49 UTC

watisdeze

2018-07-04 22:55:24 UTC

not enough windmills

2018-07-04 22:56:00 UTC

I'd feel proud if I had kids to further America, but at the moment, I haven't contributed much to its prosperity

2018-07-04 22:56:41 UTC

just vote Trump and all will be forgiven 😉

2018-07-04 22:57:34 UTC

I had aimed to get a 15% for a third party, just to allow them into the debate scene to scare the parties a little

2018-07-04 22:58:02 UTC

Trump, 2000-ish

2018-07-04 22:58:08 UTC

He was part of an independent party

2018-07-04 22:58:35 UTC

But left the party because of his frustration with some of the members

2018-07-04 22:58:43 UTC

take it from a dutchman, 3rd parties are trouble

2018-07-04 22:58:50 UTC

First time he disavowed David Duke

2018-07-04 22:59:10 UTC

Forum Voor Democratie

2018-07-04 22:59:21 UTC

Ik ben 'r wel fan van

2018-07-04 22:59:50 UTC

I hope Forum Voor Democratie will win big next election,

I just don't have the faith in the average dutch voter

2018-07-04 23:00:19 UTC

In the US, it's more likely a third party usurps one of the two parties as opposed to just joining them, historically.
