And skin color or sexuality less so
It's more divisive
I think they're all kind of silly to be proud of. Be proud to be who you are and include those bits of who you are, but being proud of those descriptors makes it seem like you have little of substance to be proud of.
You need something
Instead, not only can you not be proud of being white, it's not even acceptable to think that it's merely OK to be white.
Otherwise you get this cultural marxism shit
I'd say you can be proud of the people who put in the work that gave you rights, but not necessarily of the traits themselves
Yeah, but people work in abstracts
If you don't actively hate being white, you're triggering people.
Simply being an American doesn't mean those values are inherent in yourself. Be proud of the values you hold; not the label.
I see being proud of your sexuality and race as just not being ashamed but to each there own
@Schedrevka That's the point
It's kind of like the idea of God
It unifies, even if it means different things for individuals
I think nationalism to some extent is a good thing. But only when it's centered around what makes your nation great. To simply say 'we're great because we're us' risks losing sight of those values.
As long as you have a core set of values that align, you can unify
The idea of God: "some thug who will make you suffer for eternity if you don't do what he tells you to, no matter how much it conflicts with your morals." The far left is godly 😉
People shape the nation, and in turn the nation shapes people
_The idea of God: "some thug who will make you suffer for eternity if you don't do what he tells you to, no matter how much it conflicts with your morals."_ I'm reading that as banter
I can agree with that. I just think that the wording used to describe it is very important so that the important nuances don't fall by the wayside
I don't want to say I'm proud of something I didn't earn, but I will say I'm honored to have the opportunity to live up to the values that I want to hold.
isn't that being proud?
Nope
Being proud of yourself for having that opportunity?
I see it more as an obligation
Shit, what is pride then anyway
a sense of enjoying your superiority
Nothing wrong with that
Everyone likes being the top lobster in some aspect
well i'm not against pride, i'm a proud person myself 😉 just joined the convo so i'm not sure on the view
nuance between being proud to be an American and being honored to be an American
a feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one's own achievements, the achievements of one's close associates, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired.
consciousness of one's own dignity.
You should feel proud to be american, that you can consider yourself part of the greatest country on the planet,
You should feel honored for the privilege to BE american
(and no i'm not american myself)
Neither am I
I feel proud to be Dutch
zwijg jij! 😛
watisdeze
not enough windmills
I'd feel proud if I had kids to further America, but at the moment, I haven't contributed much to its prosperity
just vote Trump and all will be forgiven 😉
