Okay being persuasive, and being confidant are good skills, and they are skills a conman has, but they're not the thing that defines that word.
The core of a conman is betraying their trust in you.
Even if they don't steal from you, your relationship is built on a lie.
So I think that word has far too much baggage to be used correctly in this conversation.
