That someone hasn't altered the hashes and stamps and rerouted things.

2018-07-17 02:04:44 UTC

Not "verify" in the sense that you're checking who's on the record. That's conceptually simple, hard in practice.

2018-07-17 02:04:50 UTC

No no

2018-07-17 02:04:52 UTC

I mean literally

2018-07-17 02:04:54 UTC

Asking somebody

2018-07-17 02:05:01 UTC

IE; Sending them a text asking if they voted

2018-07-17 02:05:17 UTC

2FA?

2018-07-17 02:05:22 UTC

I'd assumed that from the start.

2018-07-17 02:05:28 UTC

If fraud was comitted on a significant scale, you could catch it doing that.

2018-07-17 02:05:34 UTC

Or at least know it happened

2018-07-17 02:05:38 UTC

lol that just seems counter prodictive though, i mean teh goal of E-voting would be to make it easy and simple for every citizen to vote

2018-07-17 02:05:46 UTC

Maybe. It's hard to say.

2018-07-17 02:05:57 UTC

Paper seems simple enough.

2018-07-17 02:06:04 UTC

ideally when we have the technology if its even possible you wouldnt need that sort of verification

2018-07-17 02:06:12 UTC

I will say that if you require everyone to have a phone the politicos will immediately go up in arms about poor people not being represented. Or old people.

2018-07-17 02:06:22 UTC

The issue isnt really paper vs digital, the issue is that traditional voting requires people to show up at a booth and wait in line

2018-07-17 02:06:26 UTC

or rural communities

2018-07-17 02:06:31 UTC

And alot of people, especially for more local elections

2018-07-17 02:06:33 UTC

Just... Dont

2018-07-17 02:07:14 UTC

People don't go to vote because of convenience.

2018-07-17 02:07:16 UTC

i mean ive been involved in a local election and that was a hassle enough in terms of recounting and having the proper officials present and all that shit

2018-07-17 02:07:35 UTC

E-voting would just exponentiate all those problems imp

2018-07-17 02:07:37 UTC

2018-07-17 02:08:23 UTC

In the US the turnout is something like 60ish% for presidential, 40ish% for midterms

2018-07-17 02:08:32 UTC

And significantly lower for things like mayoral elections

2018-07-17 02:08:53 UTC

Alot of that for local elections is that people just don't think much is at stake.

2018-07-17 02:08:55 UTC

i thought it was more like 30%

2018-07-17 02:09:00 UTC

fo rpresidential

2018-07-17 02:09:11 UTC

*for pesidential

2018-07-17 02:09:13 UTC

The country has nationalized and local politics just aren't seen as important for most people.

2018-07-17 02:09:16 UTC

**presidential

2018-07-17 02:09:27 UTC

It's really a case of the decline of local authority than anything.

2018-07-17 02:09:41 UTC

People don't know what states are for either

2018-07-17 02:09:48 UTC

yeah when really its the most effective way to actually effect change in your community

2018-07-17 02:09:54 UTC

And there's usually not big fireworks issues and you're easily shown to look like a fool if you don't know what's going on.

2018-07-17 02:10:00 UTC

"However, those 138 million Americans only make up 58.1% of our voting-eligible population (those American citizens over 18). From United States Elections Project."

2018-07-17 02:10:08 UTC

That was the 2016 US election

2018-07-17 02:10:19 UTC

Yah, I'm of the stance the decline of local politics is a real tragedy. It would solve alot of problems, IMO

2018-07-17 02:10:29 UTC

ahh kk i see idk where i saw the 30% bs

2018-07-17 02:10:43 UTC

30% is going to be about the fraction for any given side.
