Generally valid, but for one aspect: it's not entirely cargo cult in that "reenactment" = appreciation of aesthetics

so before you are able to appreciate the deeper significance and values, you can just "like how it looks / sounds"

it's a first step

So while you aren't able to give the rituals the same meaning as they used to have (by virtue of them not having been "reenactments" before)

you can still appreciate their effect on the senses, and hope to discover the underlying meaning later

And getting away from e.g. hip hop "culture" aesthetics is already a worthwhile goal imo

and, btw, I think we could have a good discussion around this on our next hangout
