I know it started as "We want to make sure that they aren't doing stupid shit in the background", but the requirement of having social media to get a job is ridiculous
Any gift to humanity becomes a curse as soon as employers get to snoop on it.
Adam Carolla on one of the Joe Rogan podcasts, he brought up a story where he was talking to an employer at a dinner table in the middle of the night
He had a question for the employer, and the employer CALLED AN EMPLOYEE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT to get an answer.
Well for fuck sake, wasn't that trespassing on the guy's free time?
What is this shit?
At my last job, the VP of the software department straight up told us to our faces that if there was an issue in the middle of the night, he wanted to be able to call us to fix it
Off-time is off-time, how did this indentured servitude get such a long reach.
I can understand if lives are on the line in the medical profession.
In my current job, not only are we not expected to come in at all hours of the day to fix shit, we get overtime
government contracts are great
I dunno what that means.
The company I work for is a Department of Defense contractor, so they're required to pay all employees overtime, whether we're in salaried positions or not
Last week I worked 50.4 hours, and I'll be paid for 50.4 hours
I've been unemployed for years now.
Drives me nuts.
So on top of not having social media, or a cell, I also have this huge gap in my resume.
I'm assuming you have a degree then?
No.
Why was that assumed..?
It's the only thing I'm thankful for.
I dodged college debt.
I got so much advice to go ahead and pull that lever. Thank fuck I didn't.
@Revan dude i thoght that was real for a second lmao
Have you considered trade school?
No money for tuition.
Ah
I'd want to pay my own way through such a thing. Which is impossible.
It's *astounding* how little boomers understand what's happening.
"You get a job flipping burgers and pay for college that way! That's what I did!"
What do you even do? They actually believe this is still how it works.
How is it possible you're the potential first person to tell them?
How can they not know?
This whole nightmare would be at least easier to navigate if more people KNEW what was going on. Conversations could begin.
But only the people with the least power even know about how little power they have.
Everyone else assumes the gears are turning just fine. "You get a job, you go to college, you get a career!"
"Simple! Nuff said. That's all there is to it. Fact."
"PERIOD."
When few have college education, college education has value. When everyone has college education, they end up snooping through your social media accounts...to see if you're the "right stuff".
If something the boomers thought was true, still was, there wouldn't be a problem.
