Then democrats added an amendement that applied gun control across the state to the bill

2018-08-22 02:55:46 UTC

And you'd be skewered alive by the existing institutions.

2018-08-22 02:55:51 UTC

lol i mean i have unironically been writing up a platform sooooooo

2018-08-22 02:55:53 UTC

What, I want history and nothing but history. I don't want any political bias in history class.

2018-08-22 02:56:10 UTC

So for me trying to make things better for my citizens would get me skewered alive?

2018-08-22 02:56:11 UTC

Following this they had a sit in at the NC capitol with juice boxes

2018-08-22 02:56:30 UTC

you will never satisfy everyone

2018-08-22 02:56:37 UTC

just know that going in

2018-08-22 02:56:38 UTC

It's impossible to satisfy everyone

2018-08-22 02:56:51 UTC

The goal is to find a solid base and stick to them while appealing to moderates

2018-08-22 02:56:56 UTC

I want to give them choices, the tools, and the ability to better thanselves aka equal opportunity.

2018-08-22 02:57:09 UTC

Dont disallow the press and act like everything you say will end up on the nightly news

2018-08-22 02:57:09 UTC

END THE TEXTBOOK MONOPLY

2018-08-22 02:57:11 UTC

sorry

2018-08-22 02:57:14 UTC

had to

2018-08-22 02:57:21 UTC

Dont say equal opportunity

2018-08-22 02:57:28 UTC

Youll go down a bad road very quickly

2018-08-22 02:57:33 UTC

How?

2018-08-22 02:57:35 UTC

It's better to appeal to the political center for 2 reasons, as I see things:

1. You get more support if you appeal to the political center
2. Your policies are more balanced if you appeal to the political center

There may be other positives, but I haven't thought of them

2018-08-22 02:57:48 UTC

*Sighs.* Equal opportunity allows for people the chance to pull themselves out of poverty and earn the life they want to live.

2018-08-22 02:57:52 UTC

Why is that a bad thing?

2018-08-22 02:58:05 UTC

Because it will be twisted into something its not

2018-08-22 02:58:07 UTC

It's also the law as written for now under the 14th amendment.

2018-08-22 02:58:07 UTC

because of the current dialogue around it i assume

2018-08-22 02:58:13 UTC

Equality on the other hand is forcing people to be equal.

2018-08-22 02:58:14 UTC

Dont use taglines, say what you will do

2018-08-22 02:58:27 UTC

you could argue instead to enforce the 14th

2018-08-22 02:58:30 UTC

Equal opportunity starts at the family level, before you ever enter school

2018-08-22 02:58:32 UTC

@Dusty Morgan They now use the word "equity" for that.

2018-08-22 02:58:52 UTC

Some people have families that can afford books and encourage them to read. Other families dont care/cant afford those books.

2018-08-22 02:59:18 UTC

Obviously those kids who are encouraged to read will have an unfair advantage over other students

2018-08-22 02:59:26 UTC

There in, that is why there is the "CHANCE."

2018-08-22 02:59:34 UTC

Hence there is no equality of opportunity in that situation

2018-08-22 02:59:35 UTC

They get a chance... when other countries they don't get a chance.

2018-08-22 02:59:37 UTC

@Dusty Morgan I think a better way to start into the textbooks would be to run on a policy of reducing textbook costs.

2018-08-22 02:59:40 UTC

"provide better access to educational material" - maybe?

2018-08-22 02:59:48 UTC

@Blackhawk342 I'd actually emphasize the Equal opportunity angle. It drives a nice wedge and most people (minorities included) really want "equal opportunity" It's only really academics and activists at this point who favor "equity"

2018-08-22 02:59:54 UTC

Almost everybody agrees that textbooks are way too expensive because the publishers have monopolies on them

2018-08-22 02:59:55 UTC

But there is a lot of bias being introduced in school books now.

2018-08-22 03:00:05 UTC

It's a bunch of philosophizing. But it plays well and establishes a point.

2018-08-22 03:00:25 UTC

its all about playing the game
